I got this pen today

I’m healing, getting closer to ready to resume everything.  I’ve been feeling bored. Holidays aren’t the same as they used to be. But opening presents should be nice. And eating all the food I’ve been preparing over the last several days will be good. Plus, leftovers!

And I’ll be getting pens tomorrow!

(Technically today, but bad hours is my refrain.)

Kind wishes and Merry Christmas, @Misfit! Nothing to cure boredom than a mixture with FPN wishes, pens arriving at the door, and the energy of feeling better 😃

I got three pens for Christmas. The Monteverde Mountains of the World Blue Mountains, a Lamy Studio in dark brown, and from AliExpress an Outdoor Writing Tools EDC pocket pen in what looks like Kaweco’s Fireblue finish.

Thanks for sharing. I saw this pen discussed around here, iirc by @A Smug Dill, but I did not have an image of it. It's a good-looking pen, congratulations and I'm happy for you!

Oh wow, @Misfit, those are all gorgeous! That Blue Mountain resin is amazing! I’m glad you have such a great addition to your collection and that your bros are so rad. Awesome to hear that you’re on the mend.

The Blue Mountains pen is even more attractive in person. I love it. The other two pens did not come with stub or italic nibs. I can swap a Lamy 1.1mm nib with the dark brown Studio, and then fill it. I’ll have to investigate the other one to see if I can remove the nib. Though I’m not sure what nib to swap. I have some #5 size Nemosine 1.1mm nibs on other pens. I’m not sure if I want to remove one of those.

Christmas added a Faber Castell calligraphy set to my collection. It includes three nib units (1.1, 1.4 and 1.8mm) and three packs of cartridges (black, Royal Blue and Pink) - all in a sturdy metal box. I don't know if this set is available in Australia, I believe it was purchased in Switzerland while my son was traveling some months ago.

I think I've seen it in Dymocks in Sydney CBD. It's not listed on Dymocks' website currently, but Google shows that at least it used to be available to be ordered from Dymocks online.

OK, not new today, but new very recently and since all the days run in together and I cannot remember which it is... This pair of Jinhao 1001 Desk Pens arrived in the post a week ago. A surprise gift, along with some Tramol inks. I've been writing with them daily since and do enjoy them. The dark one has a nib marked 03 and is loaded with Tramol 'Coke', while the light blue is EF and filled with Iroshizuku tsuki-yo. The 03 nib with the Coke ink is definitely finer and has a very pleasant pencil-type feedback.

I've been eyeing some of the Tramol (pigmented?) inks. What do you think?

And I can get those pens for about $1. I really don't need them but...

Amanda, could you share your impression of them, after using them?

I am familiar with the brand's other writing instruments offerings and I have always been curious about their fountain pens.

A calligraphy set, might be just the ticket to try them.

I was just looking at a similar (if not the same) set today but decided against it because I haven't used the Platignum calligraphy set I bought at an estate sale company's warehouse sale a couple of years ago, and have ONLY used the IF nib from a Parker Vector calligraphy set I bought a number of years ago.  Or, for that matter, nearly all of a Sheaffer No Nonsense calligraphy set I bought a number of years ago (and lost the pen and one of the nib units...).

Today I inked up a recent acquisition for the first time:  FPR Tanoshii Art Pen Blue Dragon, with the 2-tone stub nib, with Diamine Sherwood.  I missed it when I first looked at the artwork in the photo, but the dragon's tail is closer to the section than his head is.  He is most upright when holding the pen in your hand.  And on my wife's behalf, her FPR Tanoshii Art Pen Silver Dragon, with Heart of Darkness diluted 2:1.

I was unfamiliar with that pen and had to look it up.  Very nice, enjoy. 😀

Except my (like new and new to me) Monty Winnfield has a stacked nib - the Micro Cobra.  What a pretty pen with a great rollstop.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Because urushi is made with the same stuff (urushiol oil) that is in poison ivy and poison oak -- and I'm MASSIVELY allergic.  The last time I had poison ivy, it hit fast (in a matter of a couple of hours!) and went systemic and it took THREE rounds of steroids to finally knock it out.  And my water bill for that quarter was $400 US because I was washing my clothes and the bedding EVERY DAY so I wouldn't reinfect myself, plus taking oatmeal baths to stop the itching pretty much daily.  The stuff prescribed for me at the ER across town from where we lived at the time, after I realized I had it (prednisolone) did NOTHING.  My regular doctor then prescribed prednisone, which suppressed it but then it came back.  So the doctor sent me to an allergist, who said "Oh, you just weren't given a big enough dosage for long enough....  Here!"  And had me on ANOTHER round of prednisone, starting at 5 pills a day and working down to half a pill a day.

Because of that (plus a round when I was five that lasted from August until IIRC Thanksgiving!) I have to be EXTREMELY careful now.  When we bought our current house, there was poison ivy some growing up a chain link fence where the STEM was about 2" in diameter -- so my husband was cutting into it with disposable knives, and brushing the open sections with disposable foam brushes and UN-diluted Brush-Be-Gone, just to try and kill it (and even then it took several rounds of him doing it).  And we stopped letting our cats outside because they would have just brought it in on their fur and then re-infecting me....
