Bought Faber Castell Ambition OpArt Flamingo with matching GvFC converter

I'm not sure why you're claiming that they're matching.

Luckily their older made converters fit the body and thus, crisis averted for now.

The Graf von Faber-Castell converter, from what I can see, is a rebranded Schmidt K5.

The Faber-Castell (which is not the same brand, even if it's owned by the same company) converter, again from what I can see (and I have a few of them, both old and recent), is a rebranded Schmidt K2.

I can find no evidence that the company ever used the Schmidt K2 for converters that are branded as Graf von Faber-Castell, or advertised that GvFC converters are even compatible with Faber-Castell fountain pen models. I know the (original or rebranded) Schmidt K5 converter can get stuck in the F-C Ambition or Essentio, even if you manage to push it into the cavity of the pen barrel, whereas Schmidt K1 and K2 converters won't.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Thanks, as it turned out only one of my converters were compatible. Thr code that is compatible with Ambition and E-Motion Series is 148785 whereas the common GvFC converter is 148685. I reached out to service, they will try to source it from Germany. I also got confirmation they don't let 148785 into circulation, don't know why. The one I had, fit my Faber Castell Loom just right.

https://www.faber-castell.com/products/ConverterforFineWritingfountainpen/148785?

all show the product as being in stock. (‘148785’ is a substring in the EAN code shown in Fontoplumo's product listing, in case there is any doubt about whether it's the same SKU.)

I thought you knew they fit, 148785 indeed does. However, they don't sell it in Türkiye. Still, somewhere somehow I found one, but that is it. I wouldn't try using a Schmidt. Not worth the risk, even the old converter nearly stuck to the barrel cap mechanism. Now it is loose with a bit of play, but still latching. Phew!

My friends and I had our gift exchange, and joy joy joy one of them got me a Lamy Joy in black with red clip, 1.1mm italic nib. I had hoped someone would pick that out on my Amazon list.

They also helped me out lots. One did laundry, one wrapped the gifts I got for my Mom and me, one unloaded the dishwasher, and helped clear the table.  We had pizza, then opened gifts. And thank goodness, my Mom finally ate her whole meal. I got her meatballs in sauce.  They were quite large, so half today. Though only one breadstick.

Wait… just to be clear, the Schmidt K1 and K2 converters fit. I mean they won't get stuck in the Faber-Castell pen barrel the way a Schmidt K5 can.

I didn't know this was the one you were talking about the other day,

This is what arrived, around the same time as the blue no-name clone of the HongDian 525, a fortnight ago:

While I certainly don't regret buying it, it's not going to become one of my favourite pens any time soon either. The girth of the grip is tolerable, and the larger-than-usual physical size of the (size 15) nib is neither a plus nor a minus; but the feel of it when writing is… slightly too smooth, slightly too wet, barely fine enough, not sharp enough and/or without sufficient kinaesthetic feedback when executing short, swift, knife-like strokes.

Ha, another nice pen.👍  The Pilot size 15 nib is about the same size as the nib commonly referred to in a misnomer as the western #6, right?

Anyway, the pen I was referring to was the one you got from Amazon Japan, but I didn't realize it was the Kaga version when I looked myself.  Beautiful pen.  The greens really pop out.👍🙂

Good that you had a better day than the ones you've been having recently!  And it's always good to have friends like yours.

Yes indeed @inkstainedruth I forgot that one of them took out the trash. I didn’t take the trash and recyclables down to the curb last Wednesday because I was hurt. Hopefully the neighbors will roll them down this coming Wednesday.

No pens came today. One of my brothers texted me to expect a package from Atlas Stationers this coming week from both of them for Christmas. That was a surprise. Of the two, only one has been exchanging gifts as the other with a family had stopped (it was an agreement I thought for one year that ended up being from then on). However I have to wait until Christmas to open the box.

Hmm, this one is a bit of a mystery to me. My very tentative first guess is that yours had a accordion filler that was removed, including the outer part of the feed nipple/peg.

The metal sheath might actually be part of an accordion filler. Do I see threading inside the mouth of the sheath? If yes, then it wouldn't match mine. Here's a photo of the accordion filler on mine (with an ossified sac, before the filler was repaired). I'm wondering if the metal sheath on yours matches. (?)

Here's the feed peg on mine. (That's a long breather tube extending from the feed peg. I'm not sure but it is likely too long for a standard Pilot cartridge.)

spacer.png

You can see that the mouth of the filler is wider than a standard Pilot cartridge so, unless the feed peg was altered - e.g. the outer part of the feed peg removed - it would be impossible to fit a standard Pilot cartridge onto it.

@PithyProlix, this is excellent information, thank you. I'll have to return to this in 2023, when I'd like to make every pen in my Japanese collection work. (May take more than one year, also because I'm not knowledgeable or skilled about repairing them.)

Finally got around to cleaning out my desk drawer yesterday  - floppy discs!, watches with dead batteries, various cords/cables. Oh, and a P51, navy blue with a plain steel cap.

Obviously stuck it in there who knows when and promptly forgot about it, hence my excitement at buying the teal/gold cap late last year, thinking it my first. Flushing it now, has a burgundy red, possibly the really old Montblanc burgundy before the current one.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Great find, @chromantic! Next up: the desk where there are shoes now (for a Montblanc 146 doué), the kitchen drawers (for a more modest but still lovely Lady Sheaffer 642 brass), and the mailbox (for a belated delivery of a Parker 75 barleycorn)  😃💃

Funnily enough, that's how I ended up here at FPN in 2016 - digging through a drawer and finding a navy blue P45, which rekindled my interest in FPs. Been a wild ride these last 6 years.

OK, not new today, but new very recently and since all the days run in together and I cannot remember which it is... This pair of Jinhao 1001 Desk Pens arrived in the post a week ago. A surprise gift, along with some Tramol inks. I've been writing with them daily since and do enjoy them. The dark one has a nib marked 03 and is loaded with Tramol 'Coke', while the light blue is EF and filled with Iroshizuku tsuki-yo. The 03 nib with the Coke ink is definitely finer and has a very pleasant pencil-type feedback.

I got it yesterday, but it was a busy day, so here’s my new Wingsung 699 14k piston filler. It’s a heckin chonker of a pen, longer than my M800 and about the same girth. It’s a nice writer with a bouncy nib. It’s currently filled with Iroshizuku Ama Iro.1AEA7E3F-BD1D-4E81-B9BE-5EA464505EC6.thumb.jpeg.6e544b0a89125e345a243dd9012cc6bd.jpeg

Ah, more cute Penguin pens. I thought of you @Penguincollector when I saw an email from Write Here Pens having a contest to name three penguins that are  drawings.

That’s rad! I will have to look that up.  I hope you are feeling better and that your holiday is going well.
