Yes, I love the ones with the clips and bands in that Islamic ornamental star design!

Hi!

In fact, that star emblem is a state symbol, not a religious one. It is the Turkish Star according to my culture, it symbolizes all Turks around the world. It is the coat of arms of Selçuklu's, the ones predating the Ottomans and it symbolizes Turkistan(all the Turkish countries), so we feel a strong attachment to that octogonal star.

There is a big misconception about Turkish identity being eroded in popular culture, so I wanted to mention the specifics.

Oh, thank you for clarifying that!! I love all ornamental design and I had just assumed it was the same as the ones carved into the masonry at places like the Alhambra, etc. That's very interesting. (And I will certainly edit my post to correct/clarify!!)

I don't exactly know the circumstances in which other nations use it. They certainly do, but I need to update my sources on that.

Although I love ornamental design (from all sorts of cultures), I have to admit that my knowledge of ornament in that particular direction doesn't go much further than 'oooh, pretty!' but I feel a rabbit hole exploration coming on...

I also admit that these pens, as well as some others I have seen recently, are tempting me to look specifically for pens with such ornamental designs to add to my collection. ☺️

This finally arrived yesterday:

I thought I'd miss the spaceship on this limited edition, while waiting to spot one new on offer at a favourable price; it was sold out ‘everywhere’ before I found a good enough bargain on which to pull the trigger. So, I was absolutely delighted when a handful of these popped up, on a list of specials no less! Alas, the F nib was the finest on offer that time, and so uncharacteristically I bought an Aurora that does not have an EF nib, which I find only just acceptable when it comes to putting down a narrow enough line.

Oh, and I was always under the impression that the blue nib on this model had a matt finish, which would look somewhat out of place next to the blue auroloide section. I'm very glad to be mistaken, and the nib turns out to have a glossy finish.

It's definitely a looker, Dill! I'd be curious to hear whether you find that the colored nib tends to dry out any faster than a standard nib. The (steel) nib on the Cross ATX I got recently is coated in this same color to match the very Matrix-y looking pen. It looks very cool, but I have noticed it dries out after a couple of weeks in the rotation box unused, worse than my Parker or some of my vintage pens. But it's also the only Cross pen I own, so I don't know if it's the nib or the pen.

It didn't accidentally go home with your brother?

I highly doubt it.

It does look like some sort of camouflage pattern designed to hide in plain view.

Yes, like Poe’s purloined letter. I must get to bed, and resume the search tomorrow.

PS: I thought it was eight pointed star when I hastily jumped to the conclusion - might the star pattern on your pen rest have an eleven point star?

Do you know Rumi? The interlacing 11 point introverted star is found on his mom's tomb in Azerbeycan.

The Aurora Ottantotto — at least the modern ones I have, as I'm not at all into vintage pens — tends to have very effective cap sealing as far as European pens go. That makes it quite difficult for me to test (or at least keep watch mindfully) and answer your question. If a full fill of ink in my Aurora 8“88” Saturno, which has a gold-coloured 18K gold, can last nine or more months with minimal use and without drying out due to evaporation, while a full fill lasts, say, only six or seven months in my Aurora 8“88” Terra, then the answer to your question would be yes; but that will require that I set the two pens aside largely unused for most of a year!

I'll let you know if the Terra dries out in less than three months; but I doubt that it will. None of my auroloide pens, including ones with black-coated (14K or 18K gold) nibs, have dried out that quickly in my experience.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

It does look like it but I'm not sure - this pen rest seems to have a lot of stars. It also very much makes me think of a flying carpet! ;) (Also Moroccan lamps)

My rotation is 20 days because that's how many pens fit in my display case. Three weeks to rather seriously drying out seemed somewhat extreme to me. (For a modern pen; I give the elderly a pass! 😁)

I think I know where it is from - it is coming from Cairo! Lovely pattern, I'd argue the best of its kind.

I found it! By my chair in the living room, near the wall behind my Brother label printer. Unfortunately I looked in my room first. That meant moving Mount paper.  I have a large stack of neglected mail I saved for some reason, card statements, other stuff. I moved all it onto my bed.

If I’d looked in the area I last remembered having the pen, I would have not moved all that paper. It needs to be dealt with though.

But hurray! I found my pen. So relieved.
I hope all of you posting about your new pens never lose them, even temporarily.

Now that I’ve found the K2 pen, I’d love a pen rest like yours to rest it on in all its pen glory.

Wonderful pens, great to look at (and, as reviews indicate, to write with). Thanks for sharing! 😄

Scored at the Dutch Pen Show today from Turkish Stüdyo Ağaçkakan a WP2 design in striped Italian acrylic. A nice muted olive green, black and white. And I couldn't resist this gorgeous brass pen rest to go with it! large.36588C1E-F7CD-46E1-A259-80E45E1A0278.JPEG.5fedbdffd219dd438faa21d235f38772.JPEG

Oooh. Picture perfect  Wish you many such opportunities - and thank you for sharing, @DvdRiet!

The pen holder and the pen form an appealing chromatic (and thematic) set. Nice art!

I'm still blaming the photographer for being inspiring but, sure, I'll happily give credit also to the Van der Valk hotel... And the Dutch Pen Show organizers and exhibitors 😄

Yesterday I heard about split ebonite feeds for the first time ever. Today I received a pen (not a MB) that has one, without having had any idea when I bought it that this was the kind of feed it has. 😳
