Nice!  Is that an M nib I'm seeing on it?  I've got one with a B nib (from the one time in my life I had an actual shopping budget for whatever I wanted, so I didn't have to knock over a bank to be able to afford it -- or the M405 Blue Black with an EF nib that I got at the same time....

That is a good-looking pen.

What did you play today?

My first bird was a 1990s era M400 Brown Tortoise (bought for a special occasion) and it had an F nib on it. I had planned to do drawing with it, but even then it was pretty wet nib (and was a firehose with the first ink I tried in it -- Iroshizuku Yama-Guri).  But it SAVED Noodler's Walnut (which I had originally tried in what turned out to be a VERY dry pen).  And then a couple of years later found that Edelstein Topaz is almost the same color as Yama-Guri but MUCH better behaved in a wet writer like that Brown Tortoise than Yama-Guri is.

I received the Platinum 3776 Coffee Jelly model today, having been attracted to the elegant color combination of a dark espresso brown and dark red, both of which set off the gold furniture nicely.  The fine nib writes perfectly out of the box, and the box contained a small ink bottle of an ink called Deep Syrup, which is a brown red that I suppose is meant to echo the barrel color.  I’m altogether pleased with the pen, and the ink is an interesting color, although of limited use for me.  I’ve attached a link to the Platinum website displaying the model.

Received yesterday evening.

Osmia (Faber-Castell) 552

The model began to be produced around 1936 and was released until the early 1950s. I can't determine the exact date of production.

The pen belonged to the inexpensive series, most likely intended for students.

The pen is small, only 11.5 cm (with a cap), made of celluloid and equipped with a 14k gold nib of medium size. The nib is very flexible. The pen is also equipped with a piston filling system.

Overall, a good classic pre-war German pen. A little small for me, but very nice. large.IMG_20250211_100638.jpg.684b057280a3d58ebcb62873e3cc01f0.jpglarge.IMG_20250211_100712.jpg.b9a17fd593063034be2f595df8c26d52.jpg

A piston filling system, gold nib and celluloid material sounds like a long-term investment for careful students. Nice find.

It’s a turquoise shade. I have a bottle, and really like the ink. It doesn’t seem representative of the birthstone of topaz. Looking it up, impurities can make it pale blue. Heat or radiation brings out more blue.

Yeah, you're right -- I was thinking of Edelstein Smoky Quartz....

In my defense I've been kinda out of it for the past few days, and the trip up to the opposite corner of PA and back didn't help, and neither has the weather.  :headsmack:

And to add to the confusion Lamy Topaz is a brown ink while the Edelstein Topaz is blue.

Here is the grey-striped 400 I got a couple days ago, along with the brown tortoise 400 I got last fall.

@chromatic, lovely old Pelikans. Always reliable through the years.

Thanks. My 140 is as shiny as the new it was new and works a treat. These both appear to be in excellent condition, still trying to decide what to ink them with.

The Black and Bronze pens arrived today to complete my little Faber-Castell Hexo collection.  Did I miss any? All are EF, except the Silver which is a fine (because I couldn't find an EF). They all write very fine indeed.

Top to bottom: Bronze, Rose, Blue, Silver and Black

@AmandaW Nice! I have black with EF nib, which writes VERY fine, really too fine for my normal handwriting but great for particular tiny-writing uses. Fabulous pen! I would like a F nib, but sadly nib units don't seem to be available, and whole new pen not cheap.
