What ‘flavour’ of M600 is that please?

It almost appears to be an M805 Ocean Swirl, except smaller.
I haven’t ever seen any M60x pen in that finish.

The M600 is the "Green O' Green" Special Edition from 2011. My photo doesn't get the beautiful dark green accurately.

Ulpia is —independently from this thread— one of the most thrilling topics in the German pen community. I adore their designs as they are a vibrant mix of old-fashioned (stylus-shaped section with that knurled ring) and modern (rounded ends etc.) at the same time. It’s difficult to find English equivalents for the expression Formsprache, maybe „statement by form“ may give you some idea, why this pens are exiting in many ways: short & girthy like a Montblanc 1912, some Bauhaus simplicity and kinda Art Deco clip — and cool colours like coral, medusa, bronze…

David, your pen is definitely ebonite. Is this the desert pattern?

However, they offer as well another material from Germany called Juma resin, a mineral based resin, which seems to be very durable and clear at the same time. It delivers a deep structured material. Like it very much!

Steel nibs come from Jowo, they are well proven.

May I suggest you an alternative solution: As the suction effect comes through the feeder it is maybe sufficient to dip only the nib/feeder but not the knurled ring (this maybe takes a good amount of ink and keeps it —unintentionally— for your fingers instead of dropping it back into the bottle.

There is also a second Ulpia line bringing an unique filling system called Párix, maybe the evolution of eyedroppers and safeties. A combination of a cartridge nib section and a small tube of ca. 2,5 ml as ink container, what is pretty generous.

Enjoy your new Spanish design!
I am about to order a pen from Ulpia, too :)

Kind regards,

Todor

Thanks for your comments, Todor. I am liking my Ulpia a lot. It is the C/C "117" model in the "Desert" ebonite material.

Your suggestion for keeping ink off the knob is problematic if you cannot see exactly where the ink level is. Another solution that yours made me consider is filling the pen with a travel ink well, e.g., Visconti's. I wonder if a good seal can be obtained.

I may well end up getting another Ulpia in one of the blue or coral materials. There is a lot to like about it. I do wish they offered a stub nib, but, of course, I can always swap in one of my JoWo stubs or CI nibs.

You also can try one of these plastic measures that come together with TWSBI inks or buy a separate one.

Travel tube is alsways a good idea and you can even put your preferred ink into an empty Montblanc standard bottle as you can see the nib and at the same time you can catch even small amounts of ink.

Hehe, here we all have too many pens but definitely not enough 😊

Coral is pretty tempting and if I pick one I will ask them to swap to palladium trims… Currently I am most interested in one of their Medusa resins, they are stunning!

I went to their site to see all models and I like the idea that Ulpia is a small manufacturer, a team of some few enthusiastic guys, crafting every single piece by hand. I like the old guy engraving the pens.

When I checked fpnibs yesterday, they were sold out of most Ulpia 117 colors. I don't know if they intend to order more. I hope so, because I think this is a good product.

I hope this helps.

Happy writing!

David

I found a Ulpia Desierto at Galen Pens. It arrived this morning. The only nib that was available was medium and so I thought I would either have it stubbed or obliqued, but it is a fantastic writer as is so I will likely leave it alone. The pen itself is gorgeous. I was attracted to the Desierto and the Marina. The Desierto appearance speaks for itself and the Marina reflects the sea. Both are very attractive. I chose the Desierto because I figured it might sell out before much longer - it is a bit more unusual than the Marina - and I will get the Marina in a couple of months. This pen reminds me of an Aurora Optima in overall structure although the Ulpia is a bit longer and has slightly more girth (which is good for my 77 year old hands). The Aurora also has more gold trim on it. Thank you, David, for alerting those of us at FPN about this pen.

Today I received a Santini pen in Blackberry ebonite with bronze furnishings, and a lovely cursive italic nib that already I can tell will be a favorite, with essentially perfect flow and smoothness on initial testing.  I’d been eyeing this pen for more than a year, and scored an excellent discount on one of their recent sales.  They had a new material called Provenze that looked somewhat similar, and Katrina from their customer service cheerfully provided me pix of the materials side by side for comparison, aiding my choice.  I’ll try to post some pix when I get a chance.

I’ve been doing business with them for 4 years now, and continue to be impressed with the quality of the pens I’ve received, not to mention the consistently excellent customer service (all for questions, with the exception of a stub nib I returned for adjustment upon receipt, as it was writing a bit too wet for my taste-this was handled promptly and with no questions asked).  I’m glad there are still companies of quality and integrity.

Turns out two pens arrived today. The first was a Kaweco Sport AL Black with M nib. Later the Kaweco Sport AL Rose Gold with F nib arrived.

Please notice the book cover that has a fountain pen and ink bottle on it. Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson is a fountain pen user.

Nice to know, huge fan of Neil.

I used to hope that someday, on what used to be my sort of annual trip to Fountain Pen Hospital in NYC over the Christmas holiday visiting my sister-in-law and her husband, that I'd run into him there....

I once saw an article in _Parade Magazine_ (the insert in the Sunday paper, back before everyone at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette went on strike because the new owners were so awful) where they interviewed him and had a photo of some of his pens -- all of which had "space" or astrophysics-related designs on them....

There is a story a couple of years ago, the Head of Surgery of a large English hospital who was so cheesed off with illegible patient notes compiled by his junior and intern staff that he bought 10 Jinhao 159 pens, all fine nibs and in every colour and gave them a pen each,  the reason for the multi colours was so that that pens could not be 'borrowed' permanently.

I don't have it yet, but I should be taking delivery of a rare Omas Paragon T2 75th Anniversary Titanium fountain pen tomorrow. Box too! I am in no position to be spending the money, but I have wanted an Omas fountain pen for a long time and when I saw THIS one, I was fascinated and just couldn't pass it up.
