I got this pen today

Received this Ranga 4C with chroom trim yesterday. This will be the last pen I buy for a couple of month to focus more on the ones I already have, unless I run in to something special of course........

First impressions on the Ranga are good, like the clean design and it writes pretty smooth out of the box.

How do you like the zoom nib?  I have one on my Pro Gear Slim Purple Cosmos but I waited to order the pen until I got a chance to try a friend's to see if I could get used to changing the angle of pen to paper.

I should pull that pen out and put it back into rotation -- someone on here said they'd liked it for drawing, which was part of my impetus to get that nib on the pen.

I like it. I suspect I'll treat it as just a very smooth-writing broad nib most of the time, using the finer line only occasionally, but I can foresee this getting regular exercise.

Parker 45 Coronet gray color version.

I have completed only fountain pens.

 Collecting pencils is impossible…for me...

Thank you very much.

I'm finally free from a stomach aching auction…

Coronet is actually more vibrant and darker than the images on the net (including this one). (My photo didn't capture the green very well).

I especially like blue and red.

Congratulations @Number99 on the end of your Coronet journey, and the wonderful collection you have built.

So, what's next?   🙂

I'm going to rest for a while.

This morning, I had a dream in which there was still one more color left, and I was depressed... (The Orange Color… in the corner of my memory... Actually, another name for the faded Brown Coronet…)

😅

Yes, I think you do need to take a rest!

Well, bugger.

A medium-nibbed transparent-brown Wing Sung 699 just popped through the letterbox. I had planned to try swapping the nib and feed for an FPR ultraflex unit, treating the pen as a cheap vac-filler ink-delivery system; but it turns out that the Wing Sung nib is a really pleasant writer, smooth and a little springy with a wet fine-to-medium line, and now I really don't want to replace it.

Might have to get another one with an extra-fine nib so at least I won't feel bad about butchering it.

Don’t ya just hate it when a pen turns out to be too nice for what you bought it for!?! :D

I got a(nother) Waterman Taperite!

WatermanTaperiteee.jpg.a7e9bc24bc38a6d2afbe09e4666a6d89.jpg

It's wonderfully wet and bouncy, solid semi-flex. The tines were just a touch misaligned, I made it a little better but it's still like 5% off. I think I'm going to leave it alone if my idle hands and even more idle mind lets me. I don't have the skill to go that last 5% on a soft nib, will probably make it worse.

I'm now firmly convinced these pens are the most underrated vintage pen out there, no exception. They're not nearly as well built as the Parker 51 which they are clearly "inspired" by (cough) and the capping mechanism leaves much to be desired (spins like crazy and not as stable as the Parker 51) but the nibs have so much more personality. I like them much better than the "famous" Waterman #2 nibs from the 1920's and 1930's which I've had really bad experiences with.

And they're cheap! I got this one for like $10 (well, not including premiums, taxes, shipping, etc. but still good), which is easily at least 1/5 or 1/6 you'd pay for a Parker 51 in okay condition. Or really, what other gold nib fountain pen can you get for 10 bucks? Or flex nib for $10?

Well, the "brown" 51 Aero arrived in the mail -- and as I had suspected, it was Burgundy (not Plum, as I had hoped); of course I knew it wasn't going to be Cordovan Brown, since it's an Aero).  There's what appears to be a crack on the hood, just above the clutch ring, and I'm NOT sure the cap is correct.  But the Pliglass sac seems to be pretty clean (although I haven't had a chance to flush the pen yet, since it only arrived a couple of hours ago and I was updating the paperwork and doing the eBay feedback thing).  Pretty sure that the pen is pre-1956, because it says to use Superchrome ink.  Oh well, the price was decent -- $45 plus tax and shipping.  And if the hood really is cracked, Burgundy is a common color and I should be able to get a replacement.  At first glance, guessing the nib is an EF (I'll try to compare it to ones I have that are F nibs as well as ones that are EFs tomorrow, when hopefully the light is better).

I feel your pain. I once pulled the trigger on a ‘49 aero “buy it now” at “a little high for a burgundy and a total steal for a plum” while unsure of the actual colour. It’s burgundy. Nice pen. But not my plum. 😕

i sure as heck didn’t get it for $45… so i think you still did ok.

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.

I think I saw Five Star Pens selling new old stock burgundy hoods on eBay if you're still looking.

Are those for the old 51s or the new release?  I don't think the two are compatible.

It said aerometric I believe, so the old ones. But if you're looking to buy definitely double check. No clue where they got so many NOS specifically of the burgundy ones.

My Conway Stewart Churchill in blue stardust came in today! Now I need to decide what to ink it with. I like my rotation to be in different colors to help each day to stand out in my journal but looking at it now I have six shades of turquoise/blue, MB Irish green, Diamine ancient copper, and Diamine writer's blood. It's hard to add in another blue to go with the new pen. Not that I don't have more shades of blue in the ink drawer but not enough other colors in the rotation to set it off ;)

Maybe time to change the rotation...

The Gravitas Pocket pen is about empty... Maybe drop it and clean out the Aurora Talentum. Then add my Nakaya Dorsal Fin v1 with SBRE Brown to help balance things out. I could reload the MB 149 with Pelikan Olivine...
