Preliminary reading: Lightfastness Test - Black

Result for

  1. Black inks
  2. Blue inks
  3. Red / brown inks
  4. Violet / green inks (this post)

Following the same experimental setup, here is the result for fountain pen blue inks:

(1) Between 0-100 hours of exposure

(2) Between 0-200 hours of exposure

Note that this is the 3rd batch of ink samples I prepared after the experiment had been under way for a while. The maximum number of hours I got is 200 hours.

Thanks so much for all these tests ! It's good to see proofs of Noodler's claims, now I can sleep better at night. Kind of a shame for Tchaikovsky, it seems that bright pinkish colours are very hard to make lightfast in all mediums...

@delda and @ColinK  Welcome aboard!

Delda, this is great work. I've added your experiment to the "Start Here" list.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

@ColinK

Indeed, purple / violet is a tricky colour to make. In traditional medium such as watercolour, the lightfast version of it is always ranked the most expansive one in any brand's product line.

Note that the Tchaikovsky ink I got is the first version. Noodler's later reformulated the ink but didn't change the name. I don't know if there is any difference in the second version's lightfastness property, besides the colour variation.

I'm currently using Noodler's La Reine Mauve, very slightly diluted, and find it a pleasant purple. It's claimed to be archival, water resistant and bulletproof.  I did a water soak and it passed with flying colors looking water proof.  I have a sample in a sunlit window and will know more in six months or so, but I recommend you put it on your list.

@A Smug Dill, can you please confirm that you can see it now?  Thank you for letting me know about the error.

Yes, I can see it now. Thanks for fixing it!

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.
