Pilot Custom 823 Amber (medium) ink matched with Noodler's Kiowa Pecan

I've been trying to find an ink that would best complement my Pilot Custom 823 Amber <m> both in terms of color aesthetics and usability. I've used Iroshizuku take-sumi (bamboo charcoal black), Tsukushi (horsetail brown), J. Herbin Lie de Thé, Diamine Oxblood, KWZ Honey...and while some were really good (take sumi and Oxblood), others had lovely colors (Lie de Thé and Honey) but didn't write very well. I also sampled a bunch of brown inks ranging from Edelstein's Smoky Quartz (interesting color, but a tad too greyish/green tones for my taste) to Waterman's Absolute Brown (really nice, but looks better on some paper than others).

Amongst those samples was Noodler's Kiowa Pecan, which is a lovely warm, caramel color that really matches the body of my Pilot Custom 823 Amber...and so far it writes really well, nice thick, wet lines with wonderful shading on Tomoe River and Leuchtturm paper.

Now if I can only make my handwriting as pretty as my pen and ink 😜hah hah.

Have you tried Pelican 4001 Brilliant Brown? It has a similar color in the picture? I know colors are very subjective. Pelikan Brown is my go to color for any new pen.

Hm. I haven't, actually. If I get a chance I'll try to get a sample. It does look nice on the images I've seen online.

When I first got my amber 823 I matched it with Iroshizuku Ina-ho. It was lovely, even though Ina-ho looks slightly greener than the pen.

Ooh. That's a pretty shade. Definitely some green in there, but it complements the pen well.

It's funny, when I first started, I wasn't into "shading" so much, but focused on more strong, vibrant inks that have fairly straightforward profiles (black is black, red is deep red). But ever since I tried out Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses and J. Herbin Lie de Thé, I've started to gravitate towards inks that have a more subtle profile, with shading and depth, just more character in general.
