Don’t know the answer but that’s a cute edition. :)

Should this be in the Lamy thread?

Just saw the email ad for those from Anderson Pens.  I think I want one, but I have to see what nib widths I already have for my Safaris/al-Stars/LX.

Okay, I admit it.  I'm a sucker for the ones that have the colored clips.  For the Safaris, I have Dark Lilac, Vibrant Pink, and managed to score a used French Blue for not much more than retail price on an al-Star (I just kept balking at the NOS prices).

As this is a special edition, I may be wrong, but my experience with Safari's ( ever since the first year of introduction) is that the "cross" on the cap denotes fountain pen, while the "slit" ( think phillips vs slot blade screwdriver) denotes roller ball.  The only Safari's I've ever seen with a solid dot on the cap have been Chinese knockoffs.  My bet is that if you get a FP, it'll have the cross.

A dot was common for older Safari fountain pens in special editions. One example is the "Flame", an orange pen with intensive colour, from 2004.

As it turns out, the "Red and white" special edition pen I'm asking about has a dot. Then the next question is how it differs from three other non-standard editions from 2010, also white with red clip and red dot top.

Someone at my pen club meeting last night was saying much the same thing -- that the pen is a re-issue.  And was joking that eventually the French Blue would likely get re-issued....  I said that it would be nice if they did, but I got a used one on eBay for not much more than the MRSP for a *new* Safari -- and WAY less than the prices I'd been seeing for NOS ones....

The French Blue is at hand, and the red finial has a dot.  Not sure where the Violet one is; I just checked and the Dark Lilac has a black finial with a cross.  Didn't bother to check the al-Stars or the LX, since it's just the Safaris we're talking about here.
