How many have a Weak Kneed Wet Noodle?

I have collected altogether too many pens, in order to find the Mabie Todd ringtop with an incredibly flexy nib - not quite dip-pen-flexy, but it does the trick with my rather swashy descenders.. However, the phrase "weak-kneed" infers a nib that flexes and stays that way, which strikes me as suboptimal.

What we infer from the term is different!!!

 

I have never read that as that before, just a flexibility into dip pen nib range....in my case mid dip pen nib range.

Term invented a long time ago by the English nib grinder John Swoboda. Had read about the term and mentioned it for 8 or so years with just one time I'd run into it.....and in a MB Safety Pen, in better shape than mine, outside my nib wasn't missing tipping on one tine.  Eye opening when one put the nib to the thumbnail.

 

And my WKWN, springs back to shut just like normal.

 

Didn't try to ink it of course, the cork would have been 100 years old. As soon as it gets back from repair, probably be in the mail to me sometime next week, I will of course ink it. Have been 'asking' around what ink does best for such a nib.

 

I infer weak kneed is like punch in the jaw's weak knees....not a one time bend and no return.

 

I'm glad you have a WKWN.............any nib that flexes into dip pen range is one.

Of course there are dip pens with out much to any flex, but I will ignore that, when saying my Wet Noodles look uncooked vs my weak kneed wet noodle....which is rather an over cooked noodle; no al dente here.

The cap top was too damaged to put in a large snowflake........I'm more than fine with a small snowflake. I'd thought the top of the cap might need be amputated and a solid color put on.

So late to the party. I just discovered, MB Safety Pens came in various sizes, the larger the more expensive.

as soon as it gets back I'll measure and find out what size it is.

I saw some prices on original MB Safety Pens.

Mine will be worth lots less, but that has nothing to do with it. It's fixed and I will be writing with it, a weak kneed wet noodle.

 

Got to go down to my jeweler  and get a snake clip put on it....in snake clips seem to be de rigueur; the norm.

 

The Whee moment has more levels than I thought. How was I to know they came in different sizes....with different size nibs. Pen History has snuck up and blackjacked me in the back of the head.

Montblanc #6 Safety Filler Fountain Pen.

Six is the size of the Simplo nib.

Just saw a version with 'just' a MountBlanc #6 nib.

I've transplanted dip nibs into some of my fountain pens...with interesting results.

It came in and the nib in spite of being a Weak Kneed Wet Noodle is more a 5-6X than a 7X. It is however the wettest nib I have when pushed. I had thoughts to have to pull out one of my roller blotters, and that was R&K Salex.

 

It's not the width the tines of the WKWN that make it a WKWN, but the ease of tine spread.

I got a 52 Wet Noodle 6X inked right now, doing a scribble the MB writes 1/3 wider with @ the same pressure. And a lot wetter.

 

There will be no pictures of my fancy capitol L's. I'd have to find an ink light enough to show the rhombus and hopefully the dark bordering lines of my fancy L.

I have drawn wider fancy L's....but the MB is  a 5 X nib not a 7 X nib.

My Camera takes lousy pictures and my writing  is avoided by teachers of all ilks.

Should I find that ink again, I'll use my wife's handy and take a picture.

But can't you at least show us some cross-hatching or something?? You gotta give us SOMETHING!

OK tomorrow in daylight, but it's not the spread but the ease.

I'll warn you it is the sameO as a Wet Noodle, in you can't feel the difference.

The Safety Pen Blobbs

Just learned as you can see a roller blotter is worthless vs a BLOB!.

Advice let the blob dry naturally.

 

It is due to the ease of tine movement a very wet nib, lots wetter than a Wet Noodle.

Is it as Addertooth said of a Waterman earlier in this thread: 'it flexes if you look at it wrong'? 

Wet ink or a dry ink?

Dry ink. R&K Salix an IG ink.

 

Is not dip pen  Hunt 99-100-101 Earthquake in California makes it flex, but any local earthquake will do.

44 Hunt round point, or Soennecken no other size marking, middle of the pack dip pen flex similarity.

 

 Francis repaired the hell out of this medium-large '50-60 MB 146.

It is a telescopic piston, that one can see working, in some of the inside paint is gone.

It was dull, missing cap bands and the cap was a tad crooked so the pen body hardly worked.

I had hoped for two brass bands, new cork and not something that looks like it went to MB............not that they would have done as well.

It's got great balance, much better than the 1cm larger '70-now 146. (1/2 cm shorter cap and 1/2 cm shorter body. Tad thinner.)

A maxi-semi-flex OB that writes so soft.

 

I don't know why this maxi makes such an impression, but it does.

When I start thinning, I'm thinking my maxies will be last to go.....well, they will go after I don't care anymore.
