The Unsung Virtues of the Parker 45

Hello.

I am using MAJOHN 80s as a donor for Parker 45.

It is a PARKER acquiescence super copy of China.

They offer a new section made of durable material and a converter that fits the P45.

Not only that, they also act as a vault for the original section.

I can't find the inner cap on the cap of MAJOHN 80s, and it seems that the fitting with the barrel works with the section ring.

Therefore, the original section will not wear out in the future.

The nib of the MAJOHN 80s is not good (I may have pulled it off) It is recommended to use the MAJOHN 80s with a P45 nib unit.

 Is it an evil way?

But they all work the same, and the section wear stops.

New sections, converters and original vaults are available on ebay for around $ 10.

 thank you very much.

Edit and add.

Please don't forget to move the section ring when you try it.

It is a unique part for both sides.

 I failed there once.

  • 2 months later...

Parker 45 was my 1st school pen (3rd grade) almost 50yrs ago.  I learned to write with it and Pelikan Koningsblau ink.

Used 45s through grade school, high school and college; replacing nibs a few times due to "accidents"

After I finished college, I moved to more expensive pens but keep coming back to the 45 when I wanted something reliable, smooth and easy.

Very well designed pen, sleek looks, great variety of colors and finishes.

Very comfortable (to me), smooth writer and easy to clean/maintain.

Replacing parts takes no time, and the fact that it can use cartridges or a converter is invaluable.

Slip on cap is not a problem, and besides a few times that the pens have leaked during air travel it has never let me down

I ended up buying several over the years, just love the pe... and at some point I'll find a good harlequin

I keep looking longingly at the Harlequins.  Then I look at the price tags and get sticker shock.... :crybaby:

Thanks but I've already bough way too many pens this year.  In 2020 I managed to restrain myself to what Bo Bo Olsen refers to as "the pen of the month club" (plus one replacement nib and one converter); but this year I almost tripled that number....

And of course I was SUPPOSED to be budgeting for repairs on pens I already had, only there were almost no repair people at the three shows I got to.... :(  (And of course the shows also involved travel expenses like hotel rooms and the cost of gasoline...).

That I understand completely. I have WAY too many pens and need to bail on some. Hoping I can wait until the Triangle Pen Show next year.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
