Sorry inkstand Ruth.  I've payed some pictures under Lamy Picture quiz (Posts 1-3_ I don't know if they took awhile to appear because the picture file sizes are large to allow people to zoom in 🙂

After posting I discovered the other threads.  Unfortunately, I then couldn't get back to this thread because I had looked at another one in between.

I have it set up that newer posts show up first, and unless someone responds to a post immediately I don't necessarily see it right away, which gets especially problematic for game threads like "Guess the Movie" -- and with the new software the search button is even less useful than with the old software on the old servers.... :( (I was just reading the thread about Classifieds not working right which has been the case for several months now....)

No worries,

I used to think I was tech savvy, now I know my tech ability is much less than that of a 4 year old 😂  I've amended to other posts to say that there is a seprate one for comments.  I didn't think things through and should have made sure the pictures were small enough to fit on one posts.

But thank you for your post as it promoted me to amend the others to make things clearer.

Well I definitely spotted a French Blue Safari and a couple of the SE pens from a year or two back (Mango and Violet, plus what I think was a Dark Lilac.

I'm now curious about some of the other red-clip and black clip models as well, which I don't think I'd ever seen before (for some reason "normal" Safaris don't interest me, but the ones with the colored clips, which make the clips look less like paperclips, always catch my eye -- which is what really attracted me about the French Blue in particular almost more than the black clip and nib on the Dark Lilac, which of course is just stellar looking.

The ones with Black Clips all have the matte/textured finish.  For some reason Lamy seems to prefer these with a Black clip,

So there are , Original Terracotta and Original Savvanah Green, Umbra (originally called S2), Grey, Petrol, All Black, Dark Lilac and Brown (only released as a character Pen in the Far East - Line Friends).

The coloured clips are:

White with metallic Red Clip (another released in Korea) the Aquamarine, Mango and Violot (the Candy Colours),  white with standard red clip (Japan), Red with Yellow Clip (China) French Blue and Flame Orange.

Sadly I still pine over a lack of the Blue with Yellow clip sold in limited numbers in  Swedish Store some years ago, and the whit with black clip and matte/textured finish which seems to exist but is rare and is thought may only have been an export model.  Perhaps an early example of some those I've listed which are only available in the far east.

I saw one of those on eBay a few years ago -- apparently they were to commemorate some anniversary (250th?  I forget now...) of Sweden becoming a country.  Yeah, I wouldn't mind getting one of those, depending on the price.  I think that was the first pen that I was going "Yeah, I might actually want a Safari at some point...."  Then, after been given the Jinhao 599 (a knockoff of an al-Star) and realized that I could maybe get used to the triangular section after all, I was thinking "Okay, maybe go really silly and get a pink Safari...."  Only I didn't really like the color of the Pink ones I saw, and then the Dark Lilac was released and it was All Over™ .

I blew hot and cold over the Vibrant Pink al-Star (saw one in the Lamy Soho store in NYC a few winters ago, where the one from the store window was sun-faded on one side!) but then picked that up when Vanness had them on clearance.  Also got the Violet SE because it was *just* enough different from the Dark Lilac (and had the matching color clip to the barrel and cap).  I kept balking on the NOS French Blue ones I was seeing on the Bay of Evil, going "They're asking HOW MUCH?  Are they kidding?  It's *just* a Safari!" but got lucky and spotted a used one for not that much more than the retail price of a new Safari).

Got a Ruthenium LX for cheap from Lamy's old US distributor in a closeout (both it and the Vibrant Pink al-Star ended up being less expensive than a new Safari's retail price).  Sprung for the Azure al-Star last spring after waffling over the color (which is really dependent on the ambient light, and have decided I actually like the color better than that of the LX (go figure...).  But some of the colors I go "meh" over: was not remotely interested in Petrol, for instance, or the anniversary reboot of the original two colors).

Congratulations for your Lamy pens collection. Lamy Safari  special editions can be of two different groups :those   yearly editions  that are offer for sale world wide and the ones that are issued for a country or a  pen store. They are Japan , Malasia ,China,Taiwan, etc. special editions. To collect all the special and anual  editions can be quite hard as some of them are only for sale in  a chain of shops, as it was the the case of the Taiwan pens. Also there is not a single source with the whole list of Lamy Safari pens ever produced that I know.

Hey, you have a Lamy Lady!
I didn't know it until the wife of a good friend asked me this spring if I could tell her what kind of fountain pen it was that she had received as a gift many years ago.

It was lying in her desk, not used for 10 years, clogged and dirty. I was able to clean it for her and get it writing again, filled it with Diamine Tyrean purple (because she wanted a purple ink) and she promised to use it regularly again.
I did a little research and then explained to her what a treasure she had.

Beautiful pen, it's a pity that Lamy no longer produces it. Since then, I've always kept an eye out to see if I can buy one somewhere at a reasonable price. Here in Germany, it can happen that you find a pen in a stationery shop that hasn't been produced for years or decades. 3 years ago, I bought a Lamy 69 that hadn't been made since 1985.

Very nice display and very nice collection field! Congratulations!

You will be forgiven that you cannot, but never more that you do not want to.

Hi Jan,

I have just the one, but was lucky enough to get at a sensible price.  I also 'found' the correct case just listed as Lamy Case so also got that at a sensible price.

So here are some more pictures with the pen and case together 🙂

As with all things Lamy I like the fact that this was something different, not too many fountain pens are available with a ceramic body.

There are some good sources of information, particularly on the Safari and Al-Star and there are some really knowledgable people on here working on putting together their own databases of Lamy Pens.

So hopefully in time the information will come together for fans of Lamy 😀

Many thanks for the beautiful pictures!

You are really lucky! Did you know that the porcelain body was made by Rosenthal, the largest German porcelain manufacturer?
Philip Rosenthal, the long-time CEO, coined the wonderful phrase:
"If you think about costs too late, you ruin your company. If you think about costs too early, you kill creativity".

You will be forgiven that you cannot, but never more that you do not want to.

@bhavini, I really like the Sailor Hocoro dip pen. It’s inexpensive, easy to clean, and if you get one with a nib that has a feed, you can get quite a few lines of writing before you have to dip again. I have a fude nib, which I use for swatching and line variation while writing.

lamarax, thank you for a well-informed response! I've been worried that FountainPenHospital in NYC would suffer...
    • bhavini 15 Apr 18:28
What's a relatively cheap tool for a newbie to use to try out new inks, without inking up a pen? I've a bunch of ink samples on their way but I just want to play around with them before I decide on which ones I want to buy more of for writing. I've never used anything except a fountain pen to write with ink before.

It's gonna end where 1929 left us: a world war, shambles, and 'growth by rebuilding'. That's the conservative view of cycling history --and the big plan. Even if our generations perish.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:49
Of course trade wars are much, more important than the prices of consumer products. The true intention is to weaken the dollar, so that the Chinese start selling their US held debt. But the dollar being the defacto world reserve currency, it doesn't lose value that easily. So the idea is to target trade through artificially raising prices. Problem is, inflation will skyrocket. Good luck with that.

In Europe, the only (truly) American produced brand is Esterbrook AFAIK. Tariffs will make Esterbrook products compete on the same level as some high-end European brands (let's say Aurora), while clearly the product is manufactured to compete on a much lower price level.
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:24
So let's say you want to buy a Montblanc or whatever. You pay the current tariff on top of the usual price, unless your local distributor is willing to absorb (some) of the difference
    • lamarax 11 Apr 0:20
Tariffs are paid by the importer, not the exporter.
    • TheQuillDeal 10 Apr 2:44
Can anyone explain how the tariff war will affect fountain pen prices??

    • lamarax 2 Mar 20:38
Oh well. In case of failure you can always wring the paper to have a nice -albeit somewhat stale- cup of coffee back.
    • T.D. Rabbit 2 Mar 10:20
@Astronymus I could use cornstarch... Or i could distill it and make it very concentrated.
    • T.D. Rabbit 2 Mar 10:20
@lamarax That's what I used! (In reply to black coffee).. But the milk might not be good at all for paper.

Looking to sell huge lot of pretty much every Man 200 made - FP, BP, MP, one or two RBs. Does anyone have a suggestion for a bulk purhase house? Thanks - and hope this doesn't violate any rules.
    • lamarax 17 Feb 18:05
Cappuccino should work. Frothy milk also helps to lubricate the nib. But it has to be made by a barista.
    • Astronymus 17 Feb 16:19
YOu might need to thicken the coffee with something. I admit I have no idea with what. But I'm pretty sure it would work.

@FineFinerFinest: have you seen this thread? https://www.fountainpennetwor...nging-pelikan-nibs/#comments
    • FineFinerFinest 24 Oct 8:52
No replies required to my complaints about the Pelikan. A friend came to the rescue with some very magnification equipment - with the images thrown to a latge high res screen. Technology is a wonderful thing. Thanks to Mercian for the reply. I had been using the same paper & ink for sometime when the "singing" started. I have a theory but no proof that nibs get damaged when capping the pen. 👍
    • Mercian 22 Oct 22:28
@FineFinerFinest: sometimes nib-'singing' can be lessened - or even cured - by changing the ink that one is putting through the pen, or the paper that one is using. N.b. *sometimes*. Good luck

I'm not expecting any replies to my question about the singing Pelikan nib. It seems, from reading the background, that I am not alone. It's a nice pen. It's such a pity Pelikan can't make decent nibs. I have occasionally met users who tell me how wonderful their Pelikan nib is. I've spent enough money to know that not everyone has this experience. I've worked on nibs occasionally over forty years with great success. This one has me beaten. I won't be buying any more Pelikan pens. 👎
    • FineFinerFinest 21 Oct 4:27
I've had a Pelikan M805 for a couple of years now and cannot get the nib to write without singing. I've worked on dozens of nibs with great success. Ny suggestion about what's going wrong? 😑

Hello all - New here. My Art studies have spilled me into the ft pen world where I am happily submerged and floating! I'm looking to repair some cheap pens that are starving for ink yet filled, and eventually get new nibs; and development of repair skills (an even longer learning curve than my art studies - lol). Every hobby needs a hobby, eh ...

I have several Parker Roller Ball & Fiber Tip refills in the original packaging. Where and how do I sell them? The couple that I've opened the ink still flowed when put to paper. Also if a pen would take the foller ball refill then it should take the fiber tip as well? Anyway it's been awhile and I'm want to take my message collection beyond the few pieces that I have... Meaning I don't have a Parker these refills will fit in 🙄

Recently was lucky enough to buy a pristine example of the CF crocodile ball with the gold plating. Then of course I faced the same problem we all have over the years ,of trying to find e refill. Fortunately I discovered one here in the U.K. I wonder if there are other sources which exist in other countries, by the way they were not cheap pen
