ONLINE Green Tea Scented Ink

Recommended Posts

Decided to review an old ink I had lying around. The scent reminds me of Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Perfume, which essentially does not smell like any green tea I've drank :P Don't own many inks but I have more green inks than any other colour even though it isn't my favourite. I'd better branch out more!

Full Review here. Summary:

Shading: 2/5
Sheen: 0/5
Shimmer: 0/5
Saturation: 4/5
Wetness: 3/5
Lubrication: 4/5
Water resistance: 0/5

Thanks and in no special order...

  • I've consumed tons (well at least dozens of kilos) of such teas over the years and none of them had any really particularly strong aromas.
  • And, none of them ever had such a menthol-blue touch (optically).
  • I also have all six of their standard inks in the boring 15-ml bottles. No real treat there, either.
  • You might want to check out DeA's Green Tea for a "better" alternative in this direction....

Thanks for the review!  Not my color, though - lacking in murk. :)  The water test patterns are interesting though - makes me think it could be used as a way to make the edges of fantasy maps... :D

Thank you for showing this. I never heard of these inks before. Always a pleasure to read about inks that are totally new for me.

To be honest, these scented inks are not my thing. Just about any ink maker has started bringing scented inks to market - and I just can’t get my head around it what the added value is. But there must be a market, otherwise they wouldn’t bother. Can anyone explain where the attraction lies ?

At least with shimmer inks, you still get to see something on paper. But with scented inks? I really hope the scent fades away with drying… otherwise it could be much worse, and you’ll end up with the journal of a thousand scents 😉

This particular colour reminds me of Pelikan Edelstein Jade, which is one of the few inks  I strongly dislike. But that’s just a personal opinion - I can totally understand that other people might like it. But the scented stuff ???

I've never (yet) met any scented inks which retain their scent after drying. The oldest ones I know of were (and still are) the original five of Herbin. Not the newest Jacques luxury items. Even the more expensive models of MB like their Wood & Tobacco smell really neat (more like cedar, possibly including a yet-unlit Royal Jamaican cigar)  are IMO well-thought out and accurately duped (scent-wise), but only upon writing (due to their wetness of course). After drying out on paper there is no smell left. At least for me.

I have a couple of scented inks that retain a little of their aroma when dry - but not long term. MB Vetiver definitely lasts for a few days - certainly long enough to be discernible in a letter posted and received, as does L'Artisan Pastellier Lagon Oceanic. Fortunately both of these are inks I like very much (and in fact bought for their colour rather than any other properties. I gave my daughter a De Atramentis Vanilla ink, which she loves, and I can tell when she's using it (it smells rather sickly to me), but I don't think it lasts beyond drying.

Thank you for the suggestion! I received this as a gift so I was not actively seeking scented inks, but the DeA ink looks nice colour-wise. Definitely less pop-bright than this one.

It does have some character instead of just round blobs doesn't it? I too tend to think of how to use inks that I don't really write with for art or watercolour and such. Could be nice for bright floral illustrations if I make any greeting cards maybe...

I'm curious too. I got this as a gift and do not actively seek scented inks. Maybe it has the same appeal as scented gel pens? Just for fun for those who like the added sensory experience perhaps?

Oh wow. I didn't know MB made scented inks (then again I don't actively look for them). Urgh now I'm curious!

Seems to be a normal thing that the scent fades after drying. This one doesn't smell like anything when dry either, only when I'm writing or have the pen uncapped. I suppose having an old journal that smells like a particular ink could create a sense of nostalgia but I definitely change my inks too often and it would just be a mess hahaha.

Yes, inky art would be a good fit. :)

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
