I know that it is for a good cause however the 1xxx and 2xxx series nibs plus the two chipped caps as well as the very limited views of the pens make this auction less than a serious opportunity to pick a bunch of Esterbrooks.

To start, look at the pens in the attached image, where the cap meets the body. If you go to the ad it looks to me that at least one more cap has a similar chip in approximately the same place. If I were spending that kind of money for Esterbrook "J" pens I would definitely want 9xxx series nibs and more and closer-up pictures showing other aspects of the pen.

 

$40.00+/ average per pen with no idea of the number of pens requiring new sacs (maybe none to maybe all six) or what is on the unseen surfaces (maybe pristine or perhaps less so...).

I think those white shapes are reflections of a particular light in the ceiling.

Regarding the cracked cap lips, I don't think so. The other cap lips have a similar reflection. The two I noticed do not look - symmetrical to me. Of course I could be wrong.

 

As for the actual number of pens, if it is 11 and not6 that makes the purchase much more attractive to someone else, not me.

 

I guess that unless someone here on FPN buys this lot and posts the correct information, we will never know the reality of the lot of pens.

 

Thus the joy of speculation and knowledgeable FPN banter.
