Woodex 24: The company earns its name from the wood grain pattern on this pen. The shape of the 24 is endemic to India. Prasad made several pens like this. So did Hema, Deccan onyx, Guider etc. This Woodex example is particularly well made with a positive end stop for the cap and properly placed cap breather holes. large.32211DB0-110D-418B-B77D-575CE546E1C4.jpeg.ab61e74e2ed56aab2f888433391709f5.jpeg

the pen has an Indian no 4 nib marked “Emerson” Fine.

the nib is pretty smooth. But the pen will be getting a Schmidt upgrade. Will post an update.

Woodex 29: is the next smaller size in the flat top hour glass section lineup of Woodex. The largest bring the model 4, followed by models 6 and 15, followed by this 29 which is the smallest in this type.

29 has a longer section than the 21. Uncapped, the 29 is longer than 21 but capped it is shorter. I think it’s going to be my new favourite after a nib swap. Will keep this thread updated.

Model #3:

Model #3 is similar in dimensions to model #4.

The body is streamlined; cap opens smoothly in 3-4 turns; the section is very comfortable to hold due to it's hour-glass design. The pen writes very well (KW medium nib). Nibs were tuned well by the manufacturer.

Model #3 is one of my favourite pens.

(Apologies for the bad lighting in pictures)

When I was about to buy my first Woodex pen I was so confused between No.1 and No.3 because was prepared to buy only one pen then. I really got attracted to this No.3 section. Ultimately bought No.1 though.

Love those dwarfs as well.

Another model with MB nib - ambitious fine.

This nib writes quite well -  a soft extra-fine line.

Now I'm a bit curious. Does Ambitious make wing nibs?

Woodex 24 with Prasad:

As I mentioned previously, the 24’s shape is a staple among South Indian pen manufacturers. Prasad of Tenali was very famous back in the day and they made a mind boggling variety of pens. Here are some pics of the 24 post nib upgrade with the Prasad.

Woodex 29 with Prasad Flat top:

Like the 24, the 29 is also a time tested size and model. Here are some pics of the 29 alongside some pretty hard to find Prasad Flattops of yore. The 29 has had a challenging nib upgrade surgery. A pelikan M405 is also shown to complete the picture.

Thanks Hari, I have two Prasad pens but not this model. I overlooked this No.24 model in Woodex catalog. It's lovely and I really like this arrow clip. This kind of clip often comes with some Guider models. Does it take No.6 nib?

The no 24 will take a kanwrite no 4 requiring mo lathe work.  Guider’s arrow clip is personalised in the vacumatic style with guider imprinted. Guiders pens with two cap rings are slightly larger. I will post a pic for you soon.

I don’t think so. The company is long gone. Some old shops might have old stocks. My friend Jai has written a good article on Tenali pens. These Prasads I purchased from Deccan long back. They might still have old stocks. They have a huge inventory.

Woodex 24 with Guider Arrow Clips:

As requested by Sagar, here are some pics showing the 24 alongside some guiders. The smallest Guiders comparable to the 24 is probably the Mandarin celluloid. Guider celluloid is the genuine stuff. Cellulose Nitrate.

An Indian no 5 nib is 25mm long, 7mm across and sits on a 4.75mm diameter ebonite feeder. The stock F nib is excellent but I need something wider and KW makes only upto B in no 5/5.5 ....

What is the difference between #5 and #5.5 nib?

Will KW #5.5 nib fit on the 4.75mm feeder?

I wanted  to get a Deccan Advocate and Advocate Junior; now I will go for these models (4 and 15)..
