Black swan in English Roses

I too succumbed to this beautiful ink. Now married to my Platinum 3776 in red and when I write with it there's a sense that the barrel itself is producing the ink. Great colour match combo.

Beautiful ink.

I am in love with both Swans to be honest...! And the lake but that is another story 🙂

Beautiful review of a beautiful ink. Love the backstory! This ink's colour appeals to me. A serious-looking red, that I can see myself using for journaling. I like that it seems to turn a red-black when fully saturated. Nice!

The Australian version also looks nice, but when seen side-by-side, I definitely prefer the English version. The English Black Swan now goes on the to-buy list.

Thanks for the great review.

A while back I bought a bottle of Australian Roses since I know it's a well liked ink, but to me it was just kind of...meh...The bottle I had was distinctly Magenta colored and as much as I hate to say this, as a guy I've written in reds, greens, and even purples a lot but magenta is just something I can't bring myself to use. Just to get a secondary opinion, I asked my wife, who rolls her eyes when I run an ink past her but usually says "Yeah, it's nice", but that was one that she basically said "Don't use it, it doesn't work for you."

A bit later, though, I bought a bottle of English Roses and I absolutely loved it. My first fill of it was in a B nib Lamy 2000(the exact same pen I'd first tried Australian Roses in), and it was just a beautiful deep red that I took to immediately. With that nib on Tomoe River, the "Black Swan" effect(at least as I understand it-the black bordering on the lines) really pops out and looks great against the dark red. My wife gave me the approving nod on that one and actually said "That's one of my favorite weird inks you've used."

I've been singing the praises of English Roses for a while now, even though it doesn't get the attention that Australian Roses does.

BTW, I threw my first bottle of Australian Roses into a lot of ink I sold. More recently I bought another bottle just to try it again and I'm still just not there on it.
