Montblanc Elixir--Parfumeur: Sakura (images)

[To the moderators: I wasn't sure whether to put this in the MB or ink forums, so if you think it should be moved, no problem]

I recently ordered the MB Elixir/Parfumeur: Sakura Flowers scent from MB's website, and thought I would share some images since I wasn't able to find many before I bought it.

I would imagine that this ink will have a fairly narrow audience due to the exorbitant costs ($87 with tax!), and to the fact that they are scented.

But if you do happen to be the kind of person who enjoys throwing cash at totally impractical inks in pretty bottles, then these are for you : )

Not sure if this will be helpful, but here's my take on the four Parfumeur inks that I've tried:

1) Sakura:

I really love the color despite it being absolutely impractical for most writing situations. The Sakura scent is the lightest of the four, and is definitely more cherry blossom than cherry (which is good...I don't particularly want my ink to smell like a cherry cola). Pleasing but not overpowering.

In a purely visual sense, I find the ink extremely gratifying. I apparently I gravitate towards desaturated powdery inks even though they don't get used very often. I'm also drawn towards peachy pinks and neutrals.

2) Vetiver:

The only scent I have ever sought out is vetiver, so this was a natural choice for me. The scent is substantial but not overwhelming; the color is vivid and easily legible with both finer and broader nibs; and the ink well behaved. To me, this is the clear winner of the bunch. If I could only choose one, it would definitely be this one. (it's also the only ink I felt compelled to get two of...).

3) Wood & Tobacco:

A decent but less unique scent (to my nose at least); it is also probably the most practical/all-purpose color of the four inks I've tried. That said, it also leaves me somewhat cold.

4) Orange Leather:

For me, this was the most disappointing of the lot. Among other things, it seems to feather and bleed quite easily (even on Life Noble paper). I don't mind the scent, but am on the fence about the color. While I like the color in swatches and smears, it appeals to me less when used for writing.

It's a very beautiful and delicate colour. I do like that - but, it seems an impractical colour (to me) for writing, due to the delicacy and muted tone - so, I don't think I'll be buying this one.

Thanks for the review.

Well I am the sort of person who'd love to throw money at this particular impractical ink, if I could just find somewhere to throw it :(

~ @seimodern: Thank you so much for this superb post.

I acquired the ink when it was released. Your thoughts are in accord with my impressions.

Your generous assortment of images with handwriting samples is greatly appreciated.

      Happy writing and sketching!

Awesome review!  I'd forgotten about this one. Pastel peachy pink.
