Lamy Studio Black Forest - 2021 Special Edition

Lamy just posted a new video about the new Studio. What are your thoughts?

I think it is a very nice colour with some green, gray and maybe even brown (you know how Lamy's marketing photography can be quite off at some point, so we will just have to see how it ends up in real life)

I will be getting one :)

It just looks black to me.
I like it, but it just looks black.

What I don't like is the "Awwwahoo" of the music!!!

Polished metal section huh? That's a no from me. I wish they'd do a matte or brushed section on some of their Studios.

Gloss black with shimmer in it, from the looks of the video -- they will sell plenty of them, I'm sure.

ditto... regardless of the color that polished section is a deal killer for me..

Out of interest, and purely anecdotally and un-scientifically, I did a slip test on a Studio and Parker 51 (1949 vac), and I found the Parker 51 section to be slightly more slippy. I know the 51 is a beloved pen on FPN, so I wonder why so many people have an issue with the Studio? Is it just because the section is metal?

Anyhoo, unless the finish looks better in the flesh, this just looks black? It's a pass from me.

I have no issues with the grip on either of these pens.

But grip quality can depend on such subtle differences as the curvature of the section, the surface finish (how smooth is smooth?) and the material or coating (some are stickier than others).

It is always best to try something for yourself and decide if it works for you.

If I wash my hands thoroughly with Dawn dishwashing soap before picking up the pen, I can grip most anything just fine. But the slightest bit of sweat or oils and a polished metal section is among the worst materials for a pen section for me.

Having said that, I'll still own a pen with a metal section if I like it enough in other ways. But I avoid them if there is nothing special (IMO) about them. This Studio - despite being a special edition - isn't all that special in my eyes...

I bought one with EF nib a couple of weeks ago in Chicago (Anderson Pens) on a whim.
I liked the color and metalized finish, the grip is not slippery and the nickel ring at the end is a nice touch.

Good weight, all metal construction and balance is very nice unposted and nib is what you expect from a Lamy steel nib

Is a good EDC pen

Not sure where the slip thing comes from, I am a sweaty guy, live in a warm part of Australia, never use AC and the pen never feels like it slips. It fees great. I like how it feels (have a Palladium Studio, looking to get another)

Maybe it's about how to hold the pen. In movies we often see American actors holding pens in weird (for European eyes) ways.

Just picked one up on the bay. The color is very unique and changes between grey and green depending on the light. One big surprise was that it is a gloss vs. matte finish. This is my second Studio and I think it's just a really great design. The nib on my pen is by far the smoothest I can recall from owning dozens of Lamy's over the years.

I bought a black grip section with a black EF nib to completely change the pen look

The rubberized grip changed little on that realm but it looks way better IMO

I agree with you . The Black Forest looks better with the rubber section.

The rubberized grip

Where is this to be found?

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

I bought the parts from Vanness pens, but I guess any Lamy distributor should have the parts

It's been used for almost 2yrs and looks great, the EF nib is nice but sometimes it dries when I'm in the middle of meetings

I need that grip section. I love the look of the studio but hate writing with it.

If anyone in the UK shares the need for a black plastic grip-section for their Studio, The Writing Desk sells them.

Today (2024-08-05) they are priced at £13.20 with a steel nib, or £87.78 with a gold nib.

(I don’t have any affiliation with them apart from being a well-satisfied repeat-customer.)

Black Forest, eh?

Perhaps it needs a German store-exclusive Diamine ink, named "Schwarzwaldgrün"?
