To me, the upper one looks more elegant; it looks more costly and classier. The lower one looks to me like a version that exists because some people aren't willing to spend the extra few dollars for the gold. See? It's all a matter of taste and perception. :) That said, there is currently no M305 available.

 

Hmmm. Just a thought here. Richard Binder removes the gold plating from M200 nibs for creating nibs for M215s. Perhaps the gold plating could be removed from the "furniture" to create a pseudo M305? Of course the success of this, or lack thereof, would depend on what is under the gold plate. Perhaps Richard can chime in with an answer.
