Montblanc? what is this exactly?

Recommended Posts

I have inherited (my mother in law would carry this around in her purse) a ballpoint (I assume it is...) which has a Montblanc snow flake on cap and clip but a marking Schneider Express on the barrel.

The pen has two colour tips a red one and a blue one that can be selected alternatively, turning the barrel to one side or the other.

What pen is this?

Do refills exist for this? (the current ones no longer write)

The pen is rather thin and elegant.

It’s a slimline. This is your model. http://www.collectiblestars.com/epages/64015612.mobile/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/64015612/Products/MB-SL-2735-97-B-T2-MSI-X-X

Most likely it takes D1 refills.

above is a scan I did for you from one of the several boxed NOS Slimlines I purchased years back. This will help you open the pen to access the refills.

thank you I-am-not-really here! (and for the refill link)

thank you Hari! (very helpful scheme, I was wondering how to do that...)

thank you Packman!

so nice to have such prompt resources available!

does anyone know why the Schneider express marking?

I looked up Schneider express and it seems to be a brand making ballpoint refills...

Do I assume they made the specific refills for this pen?

btw, Protopens seems to have (had, it's sold out) one of these but the cap is marked Montblanc

Chromatic, yes, probably not Pix-o-Mat, as I seem to find reference only to 4 colour Pix-o Mats.

Maybe a promotional pen? Maybe there was a courier company by the same name?

It will take D 1 refills (made by endless companies  - Schneider, Schmidt, Lamy, Uni etc). In the 1970s and 1980s, Montblanc made a number of these multi-pens, some of which used two different coloured refills and some of which used only two. I think yours is a Pix o Mat and there was also a Noblesse and a Carrrera version. I hope that this helps.

In the U.S. there is a company called : Schneider Express which a freight trucking company. The pen might be a promotional or gift item for clients and/or employees.

I am in the northeastern part of the United States and have seen their trucks. I do not know if they operate on a national or North American basis.

Thanks, but I doubt this pen will have anything to do with a freight truck US company... :D

I'm in Italy, the pen belonged to my mother in law who was Italian and I doubt she may ever have traveled farther than Greece... :)

but especially the company who makes the refills for this pen is called Schneider and the specific refill for this pen is called Schneider Express 56...

More likely there was some kind of collaboration agreement between MB and Scheider, who made the refills for them, whereby the pen was marked Schneider perhaps for a period as a promotion.

Thanks, I recognize the pen as a Chromatic (red-blue), but so far not as a Pix O Mat, as all Pix O Mats I find seem to be four colour pens.

Some kind of promotion probably, but more likely in favour of the company producing the refills!

They may have had permission by MB to put their own brand on the pen, as a gift to they business clients (which does not explain why my mother in law would have this pen, but that is another story :D)
