A Lamy nib for writing Chinese characters

For those who likes the feel of Lamy nibs but thinks it's just too broad for Chinese and Japanese characters, good news! The Instagram of Lamy Hong Kong just posed a photo showing a special edition of the dialog3, in red colour, fitted with a "Chinese Characters Nib" in 14K gold. They say it's finer than all of the Lamy nibs and can make a thinner line. Lamy nibs have always been too broad to some people who writes Chinese or Japanese, and this nib may serve this gap. It only comes with the red dialog3 which I think it looks weird... below is the photo from the lamy Instagram.

Very interesting!

I can't say that I've found Lamy steel EF nibs to be too broad for writing in Chinese. If this 'Han' or 'Chinese characters' nib is indeed dinner than all other our all currently available Lamy nibs, that would put it into EEF territory.

In any case, I'm always wary when an European/Western manufacturer claims it has produced a nib specifically to cater to writing in Chinese. It just seems they have this preconceived idea that producing broader cross-strokes that downstrokes is the primary trait that makes a nib suitable for that purpose, as opposed to both fineness and the ability to finish off short but firm strokes with sharp tails or up-ticks.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

I can't find the change language menu in this pen. I can't read what I am writing.

I couldn't find this pen on the Lamy HK website. It's not up yet, is it? I feel like this is a pen my mum would love-- spare the inevitable price tag ; )

Thank you for linking me and god yes that’s an expensive pen. Shame! I’ll have to admire it from afar.

  • 3 weeks later...

I find the Lamy fine Z53, (from the Lamy Aion), which fits on the Safari and all pens with an Z50 nib, stiff but very smooth and much finer than the Z50 fine nib. Maybe it works for you
