Good decision.  You should be fine and, hopefully, very pleased with the outcome.

Keep us posted!

I went online, as I mentioned, and ordered both sizes, and I received an email confirmation thanking me for my order, but I never received an invoice and have not heard anything further.  Weird.

Have you tried reaching out to Tom?

Reached out yesterday, and this morning received an email from Tom.  He accidentally had sent the invoice to another email address.  I received the invoice today and paid.  All good.

Great news!  Thanks for letting us know.

  • 2 weeks later...

Update:  I received two sizes of the Omas collar that goes inside the section.  I paid $30 to my German seller (Tom) for both collars with shipping.  The smaller collar is the one that fit.  I used a bit of silicone grease on the threads to get the collar to fit, and it did so with repeated screwing in and out, and even then not perfectly, but well-enough; the collar very slightly peaks above the section.  I got the feed and nib reinserted into the section’s new collar after several attempts, although the upper portion of nib sticks out from the feed a bit more than it should (based on looking at my other D-Day pen).

I also earlier had disassembled the piston filler as a consequence of my desire to thoroughly clean out the pen, which had been filthy.  It took some time thereafter to reassemble and properly set the filler so that it worked and, at the same time, so that the blind cap screwed flush with the barrel bottom.

I filled the pen with Waterman Florida Blue ink, and it works and writes fine now.  Along the way, I had inadvertently twisted the nib tip to one side a tiny bit, but it writes at about 85 % perfect smoothness, which is okay under the circumstances.  The nib is a medium, so there is some forgiveness there.

There certainly is great satisfaction in being able to restore this pen to functionality.  Thanks again for all the support and great recommendations about sourcing a new collar.

Thanks for letting us know the outcome; agree there is always so much satisfaction to be gleaned from a successful restoration and/or repair.  Best wishes for much continued pleasure with this wonderful fountain  pen.  It will always have an extra special significance to you.
