It is user error on your part because you should have checked if the tines were misaligned and corrected that problem instead of returning the pen and giving up on Sailor pens. Also, maybe, you ought to have used a reputable vendor who checks out everypen before selling it, ensuring that you would get a pen that would have worked right out of the box. In the USA, I have bought my Sailors from either WWW.nibs.com or from Richard Binder. Sure, their prices are a bit higher, but, my 4 Sailor pens have all worked flawlessly right out of the box.

Buying from a certain vendor is no guarantee...

I bought a Visconti from one of "those" vendors. They adjusted the nib for flow and smoothness, etc. But after a page, it went dry. Then after a half a page...it went dry. Then after 7 lines, it went dry. No matter what, I couldn't keep it writing without priming the feed over and over. It's going back, and they are committed to making it right, but when you "buy the seller", it is for their after-the-sale service, not because they guarantee the pen to write out of the box with no issues. That's a VERY lofty promise for any pen vendor to hold themselves to...especially with all the different inks out on the market and with so much of the writing experience being subjective...

But what they CAN do is stand behind the sale and work to ensure you are satisfied once issues DO arise. And so far, I am very pleased with their service. While I am bummed to have to send my pen back and potentially not see it for 3 weeks, I am happy with all they are doing to make it right (which means tune the pen to MY preferences).

Does Sailor sell their nibs separately somewhere? Just checked a couple online venues and didn’t see any. If not, I guess you’ll have to buy another pen with the music nib!!!

No, you misunderstand -- I HAVE a music nib.  Just wishing I had ordered it for the Loch Ness Monster instead of the Wicked Witch pen, and ordered the Wicked Witch with the MF nib.

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

ETA: I'm not actually fond of the music nib, once I got it -- it's very wet, and if I use a non-Sailor ink in the pen (with the special coated nib) it could void the warranty.  Plus, I have not been overly wowed with the look of most of the Sailor inks I've tried, with the exception of original formula Sailor Jentle Sky High, and Sailor Souboku (and I'm not sure what the pigmented ink will do to the coating on the nib so I've been hesitant to use Souboku in that pen.  So if anyone has recommendations for drier Sailor inks, please let me know.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."
