Best case or wrap for three pens ??

Jay Mann

Recommended Posts

I want to start travelling with my fave three pens (when travel exists again) and I can't seem to find a suitable case or wrap. For that matter, which is better? I have a 149 and a Diplomat. Gong to add a LAMY soon and another MB.

Any thoughts?

J

But how exactly aren't the ones you know about suitable for your specific requirements? Not large enough? Not snug enough? Not tough enough? Not soft enough? Not black enough? Not green enough? Not vegan enough?

That depends on your specific requirements and use cases, and how you assess merit or what constitutes 'good'.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

I suppose it's hard to find ones that accommodate the 149 and aren't too bulky. Guess I'm just fishing for brands that may have selection and are liked and recommended by the members.

My meager experience on that front is that a Visconti leather case could handle up to a Pelikan M1000 but a Stipula Etruria's a smidge too wide for it, and has lasted well for about 20 years.  Sorry, don't have either of your current pens to compare to.

And I didn't have the heart to tell her why.
And there wasn't a part of me that didn't want to say goodbye.

I use a Nock company lockout 3 pen case. It works for most all size pens. No problem with a MB 149, Nakaya Dorsal fin, etc. The only pen I have that won't fit is an Emperor...

I have this Pilot brand three pen case in brown and love it.

I have no idea how large the 149 is. The Platinum Izumo Tamenuri is the largest (or at least longest) pen in my collection, and the Visconti Dreamtouch (6-pen and 12-pen) and DiLoro (2-pen) cases will accommodate it. Awesome Italian leather pen cases they are; and there are 3-pen versions of those cases, and I assume they allow equally space for each pen as their siblings do.

I would suggest either the Pilot Pensemble https://www.stiloestile.it/en/pen-cases/pilot-pensemble-rotolo-portapenne-in-pelle-5-posti-marrone - I got mine via a Japanese eBay seller but sometimes Amazon have them at competitive prices.

or the Visconti Dreamtouch https://www.penbox.co.uk/visconti.pen.cases.htm if you like this one make sure you get the old version with the silver metal logo, the newer version without the silver logo is not supposed to be as good.

What have you heard about the new Visconti cases that isn’t as good as the old Dreamtouch ones? I have a couple of the new ones and they are excellent, in my opinion, but I don’t have an old one. I think I prefer the new design over the old one with the flap.

I have a Galen Leather 5 pen case which easily handles a MB 149.  They make a 3 pen case, as well as other sizes, and come in a variety of colors.  So far the quality has been very good, and turn around time for orders was very satisfactory for me.  Looking at the specs, the 3 pen case is not quite as long as the 5 pen model I have.  By the cited specs, a 149 should fit but it may be a bit snug.  If interested, I would read the reviews or contact them-they have a responsive customer service, and I’m sure they would know if the 149 would fit the smaller case.  They’re also available through Vanness pen shop. (vanness1938.com).

I have the Pilot Pensemble and it suites my needs better than a hard case or zippered case. Bought from Amazon, shipped from Japan, cost about $60 US. Well-made, very soft no-scratch interior, handles pens up to 6.5 inches easily. I like that the pens are fully covered and can't touch each other. Plus, the pockets are big enough to hold an Pineider ink travel container.

I've been using a Galen Leather three pen case for a couple of years now. The case closes securely and protects the pens well. It's also very well made and holds up to daily use. The slots are medium sized but stretch easily when used with thicker pens. The case even comes with a wooden stick to stretch the slots before use with larger pens.

I currently use it with a Pilot VP, a Diplomat Aero and a Pelikan M405. They all fit well.

Can anyone tell me if the Galen Leather 3-5 pen flap cover pen case has individual slots that fully cover the  fountain pen?

Yes it does. I prefer the better quality of Lupus.  Very accomodating in terms of sizing.

to add: Here's a review:

Add lightness and simplicate.
