Hello from Stockholm, Sweden

Greetings everyone, my name is Dan and I'm a newbie when it comes to fountain pens. For me there are lots of discoveries, reading, experiences and pens ahead. Right now I am retiring from work (I'm 62) at the end of this month, so there will be plenty of time to spend on pens and writing. My professional life was IT & computers, so I have had enough of that and want physical, tangible, beautiful things instead. I hope to learn a lot from the forum but ,as I said, my journey is just beginning. Interests include genealogy, people, local history, maps and Internet-Of-Things (IoT) (OK, I didn't leave everything behind 😁 ).

Välkommen!

Do you have any recommendations on Swedish fountain pens? I think the Ballograf have produced some models, but I'm wondering, if there are any other Swedish brands to check out.

I'm not aware of any pen manufacturers today except Ballograf, but this page "Pennor i Sverige" (pens in Sweden) lists a few historical ones. Unfortunately it is in Swedish, maybe you can use Google Translate or ask me and I can translate if you have a special section of interest. It mentions Aurora, Gazell, Pennett, PENOL, Runa, Scribo and Zoltan. I have neither 😉

According to this page (in Swedish again) Ballograf started in 1945 but it is unclear if they make any fountain pens today. Probably not, they sell Cross and Sheaffer on the site.

Hope this helps,

Dan

Thanks for the interesting links. Probably my proficiency in Swedish is enough to read these.

Hej Dan och välkommen!

I have a recollection of my morfar having an Aurora (which was a vac style) and also of him using a very beautiful Rune pen (which I thought looked like something a prince would use!), but no idea what happened to them, sadly. He favoured Pelikans, and I still have (and use almost daily) the one he gave me in the 60s.

I do have one (in need of some work) 'Tower' pen, which was made by Soennecken especially for the Swedish market, and is stunning. I'd like more, but they're beyond my budget most of the time!

Thanks for the links - I found "Pennor i Sverige" very interesting and have bookmarked it for a proper read later on.

Enjoy FPN!

Welcome Dan :W2FPN:

We have IT in common. I spent a lifetime learning every day. I recently tested my brain to see if it still worked -- studied for many months to certify as an Azure Solution Architect. Now at 67 I'm following wherever my enquiring mind takes me. Learning grows the little grey cells, as Hercule Poirot might say.

Yes, and it is a feeling of "been there, done that".  I started at 18 and now after 44 years I'm quitting. Leaving abstractions, algorithms and sequences for esthetics, form and tactile feeling = fountain pens ! 😃

Hejsan och hälsningar från Helsingfors! Nice to more Nordic folks join as the fountain pen hobby is not that big a thing there. :) If you are on Facebook there are a few Swedish fountain pen groups there also (just search for "reservoarpennor").
