KWZ Iron Gall Blue #3

I'm surprised this has not been reviewed yet. This is my favourite of KWZ's iron gall inks. Still close enough to a more traditional iron gall in terms of water fastness, colour change, dry time and performance, but with enough blue remaining to make it not just another blue-black.

Dry time for normal handwriting is closer to 5 seconds, but a broader, wetter pen will be longer, hence the heavy swatch test. Dry swab was after 20 minutes, wet after 2-3. Paper is Rhodia dot.

Vintage. Cursive italic. Iron gall.

Wow.  What synchronicity.  I had just mentioned in another thread one of the pens I had with me today; while in a different thread (which contained a bit of discussion about various IG inks, including IG Blue #3). And that pen is currently inked up with it (in fact, I ended up having to refill the pen this morning while using it to write checks because the converter was almost empty).

I'll admit though, that it's sort of a tossup between whether I like this better, or KWZI IG Blue-black (good thing I have bottles of both :D).

Thanks for the review.

Nice one. I have to say, I haven't got much luck with KWZ inks. My first samples got lost in the post. And I think I prefer drier inks...

But thanks for the review... Lovely handwriting :)

Bummer!  I wasn't a fan of IG Red, but I've liked most of the other ones I've tried, both IG and regular.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
