Lamy Mango

Special Edition ink from 2020.

Available in cartridges and bottle; so far (and in this review) I've only used the cartridge version.

Lamy Mango is a yellow-orange of medium/light saturation.

In real life it's a little bit less sunny-orange-y than it appears on the pictures here, and occasionally I think I even see an itsy-bitsy tiny little greenish tinge (but really only very very little).

Speaking of real-life vs pics: unfortunately my scanner is not so great with color accuracy. In the ink comparison above Lamy Bronze and Lamy Copper Orange are quite off. Bronze should be more orange and Copper Orange not that dark and reddish. In the photo below the colors match reality a bit better, albeit still not 100% perfect.

Medium dry time. No smudging after it has dried.

Low/no water resistance. Submerged in water the ink gets wiped out almost completely.

Pretty nice shading; can look almost kinda multicolored (yellow and orange).

Shows silver-pinkish sheen in ink drops/splashes; only very little in writing though.

No feathering and no bleed-through (in writing) on Oxford and Clairefontaine paper.

Average to slightly dry flow.

A light color, but still readable - to my surprise even in my rather fine Parker 25.

All in all I like Lamy Mango more than I thought I would. Actually it's probably my favorite amongst Lamy's orange inks.

Nice review and thanks for the introduction/suggestion. Although yellow and/or orange aren't my favourite colours at all, I sill do like this kind of "transition" between the two à la Apache Sunset. Wouldn't mind them (at Lamy's) offering folks in their own county the stuff in bottles

I tend to rather ignore Lamy inks (though I do quite like the bottles), but I really rather like this one, and it's one of the ones we can get in the UK by the look of things.

I might have to give it a try, though the dryness is a bit offputting.

Thank you for a fab review - I enjoyed it :)

Great review!  Really thorough and I enjoyed reading through it and looking at the pics / scans.  Love the shading in this ink.  Thank you!

I think bottled Mango is available in Germany from Lamy's online-shop.

I'm pondering whether or not I should order a bottle...

Btw: Can people on smartphones see the first pic (the one with the box/cartridge)?

It worked just fine when I posted the thread via computer, but now that I'm on the phone it doesn't show anymore..

Ok, I've just re-added the first picture. I hope it's visible for everybody now.

I enjoyed this review a lot. I kinda like the colour too... maybe a bit too light for writing, but I’m certain that this would be a great ink for drawing. Lots of colour variation in this ink, from yellow to dark orange. Looks great!

The color is nice, similar to Stipula Saffron, but too light, not enough contrast with the paper for easy readability imo.

Saffron goes down light, too, but it's just teasing, as it darkens as it dries, making it fairly easy to read.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Too light a color to be legible on the page for me, I think.  But thanks for the review.

Thanks for the review! I so badly wanted to love this ink but it just didn't jive with me. It was too light to be legible. That being said, I did love the pen! That yellow on a pen body looked great. Good job Lamy.

  • 2 months later...

I'm a big Lamy fan; 11 Al-star/Safari's; 3 Studios; & the near perfect 2000.  [cp1 & logo F/P ordered]  I bought the Mango ink in T10 50ml bottle, as it was a special edition.  I find it too dry, and too pale.  So, I can't see me using it very much - very disappointing.

I wish some of the cartridge only inks were available in bottles.
