it's odd, I've already looked...:) but the only M205 spare cap I could find so far has a black cap! :roller1:

I saw one with the silver ring — which I'm pretty sure is taken from a M205 Blue-Marbled being sold off as separate pieces — sold by Seitz Global on Amazon (for what I thought was a stupid price) a week ago, but that was just before the news broke about Pelikan's “marketing error” for the M205 Petrol-Marbled. It's gone now, and I'm not entirely surprised.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

My Pelikan M200 Gold-Marbled from a couple of years ago has gold trim around the cap finial, I'm sure. It was one of my selection criteria for which models of M20x I would buy; I didn't want a black ring above the metal clip.

You are of course completely right, and I simply forgot about it. I think, in fact, everything post 2017 or thereabouts has the gold top. It will be interesting to see what they do with the next M200 offering.

Hmmm, so I've just been told the unit to fill my pre-order has arrived in stock from Pelikan; but the retailer is not responding to my prodding them about the discrepancy between what Pelikan tells people it'll be supplying, and the (old) marketing images that's still being used in the web shop's product listing.

Do I just cancel my order, or wait until it arrives here to see the pen for myself, before deciding whether to return it (and reimbursed by PayPal for return postage) for refund?

Hmmm.

up to you, Smug...

I'm getting it, I really do like the colour, while I've easily skipped the sparkly ones, and the pastel green (I tend to avoid white pens).

Off the top of my head, almost all the 200s have black caps, with the exception of cafe creme, the demonstrators and pastel green.

The 205s are all silver capped, apart from a the 2009 light blue (but not the 2016 version) and the first clear demonstrator (I think). Curiously, the P200 black has a black top and the p205 silver.

I suppose I should go and look it up, but I don't think it matters enough to me.

That's not universally true, there are a lot of P205 sold with black cap, more than I can find metal caps (google pelikan P205)

It's interesting, I looked into this a bit further after I'd written it, and it really does appear to be almost random at times, with some models seemingly available with either, especially those that have longer production periods. I'm really not bothered one way or the other - it's the mechanism and nib that interests me more, but I'll be happy to have this one as it comes simply because I think it looks so pretty.

I have received mine and, althought it is definitely a good-looking pen, I am not particularly impressed. I expected something similar to the material in the M800 Ocean Swirl but no, the m800 is much nicer.

BTW, black cap ring.

Yes, but does it impress you as a €110 pen, which the M800 Ocean Swirl wasn't and isn't nearly?

I've had mine for about a week. First impressions: as with many marbled M20Xs, the marbling in mine is uneven. Just slightly "worse" than with my brown-marbled. One third is almost entirely opaque, the other two thirds much, much better. The lighter, more "swirly" areas, are absolutely gorgeous. The colour is (to my taste) absolutely magnificent.

So, if you are obsessive about evenness in these patterns, Pelikan unfortunately seems to be unable to deliver perfectly "mixed" barrels.

Everything else is perfect, for a 107€ pen. The nib is amazing, as usual, the piston, is amazing, as always. The black cap doesn't bother me. I've given it a good look trying to imagine whether the all silver would look better and I'm frankly not convinced it would...

Thank you very much for sharing your feedback and observations!

Even though I've quite obsessive about about minute details, as well as consistency of logic, regulations and strictures, the last thing I would want to see is uniformity or regularity in a continuous body of pearlescent or chatoyant material. So it's a good thing that the appearance of the barrel is not the same all around; and I'm confident those fellow hobbyists who spend time and money chasing shading and sheen writing in ink will feel the same way about the barrel material not having a regular pattern by design, but an unevenness in appearance with lighter and darker patches outside of their deliberate control.

It is growing more and more on me. And it is exactly as you say, the uniqueness of each pattern lends the pen personality. Here are a few photos. The top one is the lighter side, the one uncapped shows the "dark side" of the pen. I apologize in advance for the miserable quality of the pictures from my mobile phone...

Mine has arrived. The binde is very attractive, the black cap doesn't bother me, and the broad nib is writing smoothly.

That's a nice selection of inks, paper, and pen. Which ink did you choose to go with the Pelikan?

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

I don't match pen & ink colors; I've inked it with morgenröte, which is nice and red as it goes down wet, and dries somewhat brown-ish. It might have a slightly green-ish sheen (I'm stuck in a room with really bad lighting for a while).

I don't need another pen.....outside a '30's Pelikan full tortoise, or a Soennecken 111 extra in herringbone.

That's a shame, in that looks like a very nice 200.

But last month I bought a  NOS 250 and NOS W.Germany 200 (marbled blue) with BP∓ so really ....well who knows I could hit a minor win in the lottery.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

That is such a great looking pen-- thanks for sharing.

I think I would have to offload a pen if I bought this one, and I don't know if I'm ready for that yet...
