@LizEF, it's time for an exhibition!

:) If it does, more pictures!

Nothing different or more interesting today, so no more pictures.  I've cleaned the slide.

  • 4 weeks later...

I bought a bottle of Fire Opal after stumbling on review pics elsewhere.

My first test with a glass dip pen was just OK... A nice shade of reddish brown.

But I liked the hue and I had a bottle so I put it in my <M> TWSBI 580. That made the ink come alive. I think the glass pen just puts down so much ink that you don't get shading... Every line was super wet with no ink variation.

This is the <M> TWSBI 580 on Kokuyo copy paper... Known to be fountain pen friendly-ish, but only "-ish" in my opinion. It's no Tomoe River. Still, look how Fire Opal performs. Nice!

On fancy pants paper, it's even better, though in these photos it looks about the same.

A quick scribble on generic copy paper was much better than I expected. It shades on  copy paper, neat! There was only minute feathering, and no bleed-through. And this is with a medium nib, so there was plenty of ink.

Lastly, CVS Caliber notebook paper, my go-to bargain paper. Nice.

I have only had a pen inked up for an evening, but so far I really like this ink. I will be reaching for this pen first for a while. We'll see if the crust comes to get me.

Yes.  I quickly gave up on using my glass dip pen - too fat, too wet.  I should PIF it, or something.

:)  Yes, it's one of those really appealing inks.  I'm going to have to go see who recommended it to me - they were quite insistent...  Ah, @Honeybadgers, it was.  Well, these burnt oranges have grown on me, and I like them a lot - especially the shading.

  Another story idea is born!  Thank you!  And thank you for adding your pictures and comments to the thread. :)

I picked up some Fire Opal about a month or so ago based on some reviews (including this one) I came across. Here's a couple sketch-washes showing some tonal variation available when applying a little water-brush to a sketch (one was posted elsewhere on this forum, the other on reddit):

What have you done with the cat? It looks half dead.
