Can anyone give me some history on this mark stamped into bottom of the nib of a Duofold I have started to restore? I don’t recall seeing this on other Parker nibs.E555BAB2-F35D-4055-AD26-08AACAA7D4F2.thumb.jpeg.ab9cc95edacf966aaae14208bb5e7175.jpeg

Hello PortlyParson,

That looks like a Vacumatic nib - the large arrow tells the tale - Duofold nibs usually had Duofold spelled out.

Parker was known for using whatever parts they had on hand; whether they were for a given model or not - if they fit - that was good enough.  :D

Likewise, many jewelers and pen shops did the same thing. The strange mark might be a jeweler's or pen shop's "hallmark" as a way of "signing" their work; many times, fountain pens were not sent back to the manufacturer for repair work, but taken to your local pen shop or jeweler for repair.

God bless. :)

Your nib is a Vacumatic style Duofold replacement nib.

Nothing sinister going on. It came that way from Parker.

Hi FarmBoy,

I don't recall anyone implying anything "sinister," but what about the "star" stamped at the base of the nib - is that from Parker?

If so, what does the star mean? Did they use any other shape symbols on their nibs?

The star at the base is from Parker. It is believed it designates the nib was a replacement Vacumatic style nib to be installed in a Duofold.

Two stars by the breather hole on a Vacumatic nib indicate a special nib.
