New Jinhao 750 delivering too much ink

Hello all,

 

I'm fairly new to the fountain pen world as well as this amazing forum but wow what a place.

 

Earlier today, I received a new Jinhao X750 with a medium nib and I am having some issues with the amount of ink it leaves on the paper.  I partially filled the converter with Noodler's Heart of Darkness ink and the pen did fine for about 10 lines but then all of the sudden, it started leaving intermittent drops of ink on the paper.

 

At first, I thought this was perhaps just an anomaly but after the 4th droplet, I figured I must be doing something wrong.  It does seem like the Jinhao M-nib writes a bit heaver than other M-nib'd pens I have (Lamy for instance) but this is beyond just a heavier line.  Any suggestions for this newbie?

I suspect either the feed or the converter isn't seated properly inside the gripping section, causing ink to leak into the section and then stream (albeit narrowly) down the side(s) or underside of the feed. I'd disconnect the converter and clean (i.e. flush with a very dilute solution of detergent and clear household ammonia, then dry) the gripping section, then check that the nib and feed are seated firmly in the section and that the nib slit is aligned with the feed's centreline, check that the mouth of the converter is neither distended nor split. If everything is OK, then plug the converter back into the section firmly; there should be no more give when pushing forward, but some resistance to the converter being rotated on the spot.

Jinhaos are wet writers. I own three 750's and one 450 and they all share this feature. It takes really ink-resistant paper to enjoy them. What you are describing is a step further though  The post above from A Smug Dill probably carries a solution!
