Pelikan m800 nib's lifespan

Hello everyboby!

Could you tell me from your point of view how much time do you think this nib can still be used as a daily writter before the last piece of  the tip will wear down?

It was an M but someone butchered it. I took it fixed as I coud the shape, the gap between the lines and the flow but unfortunately this is what it remained from the tip of the nib. Now writes like something in between an F and an XF.

I do not use Rhodia or something similar just normal school notebooks and I do not write with by appling presure.

Thank you!

I have pens that are at least 100 years old, with far less tipping remaining than that, that still work perfectly, and have been doing so for decades. I have others with almost none, that are still going strong as well.

You haven't got anything to worry about for a while yet!

Looks like a lifetime supply of tipping based on your estimate of writing pressure.

looks like you have loads of tipping left - enjoy the pen, dont think theres much chance of it wearing down for years to come.

Thank you very much for your answers! I was already thinking of what to do with the nib when the tip will wear of and these thoughts realy started to bother me depriving me of the joy of writting with this nib. I will use and enjoy the pen like there is now tomorow.

Back in the day of One Man, One Pen, when one wrote 8 hours a day 5 days a week, perhaps 7-10 years....though many say a nib will last lots longer, in we don't use them that much.

We have many more pens, so rotate.....decades as others have stated.

I have many old pens  of that era that are still going strong and few to none have real wear.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

Tipping material was softer and less pure in older pens so wear was more likely through heavy usage. Today's tipping is very clean and durable from a large, top quality maker like Pelikan so should hold up more than most would ever write with it on decent paper.
