Blood red ink?

Had a small accident today... Same blood after a few seconds and after about an hour.

I really like Rouge Hématite but it's a nightmare to use, clogs every single pen I've tried; with a Muji as long as it's kept in a pouch, you remember to pass a piece of paper between nib and feed and move the converter a little, it can be made to work: way too much trouble.

Ordered a bottle at La Couronne du Comte and it says 2nd half of February.

Will let you know when it's shipped if you want.

Kind regards,

How is the ink? Is there a lot of sheen? I haven’t been able to determine that from what I have found online. I like the color, but hope it isn’t one of mega-sheeners.

I’d agree with the J Herbin Rouge Hematite. It looked like blood when a big drop ended up on a cloth placemat.

The good news is it washed out of the placemat. Good as before.

I am still waiting for the bottle unfortunately.

That's a little downside of La Couronne du Comte, it seems that their shipments are a little bit erratic... still have a few open orders that are not completely fulfilled... and the oldest one dates from last October 😉

They are known for that, unfortunately.

The Rouge Hematite is a nice bloodlike colour.

I assume you're talking about Diamine Writer's Blood? I was looking for a bottle of ink to pad another order with LCdC placed a few hours ago, and it crossed my mind to add a bottle of that, but when I saw it still wasn't showing as in stock I decided against it, especially because the main item I wanted to get is in stock and I don't want shipment of the order held up indefinitely.

For what it's worth, LCdC finally managed to clear its backlog with my orders when the missing bottles of ink from the last shipment arrived early this morning. Not that the mistakes and delays put me off placing more orders with LCdC; my latest order was placed just before I went to bed.

That's right, I was referring to Diamine Writer's Blood. I believe you did the right thing and I should probably stick to "available in stock" products when placing order at LCdC. If you are unlucky and as you pointed out, it can be held... indefinitely... I am still waiting for an item from past October 😉

By the way, this Diamine ink seems to be available now (Fountainfeder or Akkerman) if you are in a rush for that one.

Nah, from the reviews I've seen, Writer's Blood is too purple, too much like beet to appear truly bloody, so I think I'll pass. Thanks for the tip all the same.

Having written with it today I can confirm it is purple and not red. I was searching for a black cherry ink and it was suggested. It hits the spot.

Strange name for a purple ink though

Montblanc Hitchock - if you can find it, but Diamine Flowers has a very similar color (HalloweenHJB did a comparison).  If you check out the link for Reds in the signature line below, you can check out some of the colors.  (Go look through later pages. I see that I need to repost my website).

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I love my blood red inks and have seen many of the great ones mentioned so far so I won't repeat those I've seen above. I don't believe Monteverde Passion has been though, which is an affordable favourite of mine along with the obvious Diamine Oxblood. I also adore Private Reserve Vampire Red.

I still hold out hope for getting my hands on a bottle of Montblanc Alfred Hitchcock though!

This is not intended for any macabre ritual!

Instead, it is to add some spice to Dracula-, Halloween-, or Agatha Christie-related writing.

Pennonia has released a new limited edition red-dye-with-black-pigment ink named Draculea.

Agreed! Was tempted to suggest Black Swan in English Roses.

Both English Roses and Australian Roses are fabulous inks!

Somehow I've missed this thread before now....

And the answer to BSiER is NOPE.  At least not the sample I tried a few years ago -- it looked more brown than red.

One ink that I'm suprised that nobody has brought up before now is (modern) Sheaffer Red. It definitely looks blood-red -- I.e., a slightly brown leaning red, at least to my eye.  People say "Oh that's a red-red" and I don't consider it that at ALL (especially in comparison to what *I* consider the epitome of red ink -- Diamine Red, which doesn't lean violet or brown, and doesn't leaning either towards red-violet or red orange).

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."
