I've  watched a video by the reviewer Fig boots one time where he mentioned that the Fins on these kind of pens are made entitely by Urushi. Is this True? Or Do they have to make   the Ebonite body take that  Fin shape as well ?

I could not immediately find confirmation on Nakaya’s website, but I believe you are right: they work from an ebonite normal body and then make the fins out of urushi.

Thanks for the reply.  I love the color and the design. Congratulations on this  wonderful pen.

That seems not to be too difficult, just takes time.

Martin Pauli from Manupropria Pens once showed me a knife made entirely from urushi.

@MartinPauli Do you still have it?

Thanks, GardenWeasel. The pen has a soft medium nib with the elastic mod. It is a mix of wonderful and not-so-wonderful things. Nakaya's customization was outstanding on making a nib exactly to my preference: brush-like (it does give quite a bit of line variation, though not near as much as a proper flex nib), very bouncy. It dances as you write on paper. When the nib is primed, it writes just perfectly for wetness, with high precision and little feedback. The long section in the DFII model makes for a very comfortable grip. (Clip)

Here is a writing sample: (clip)

Thank you!  Does one need to specify the Elastic nib from a soft nib?

This is what is said to be the case. I have not personally seen any "in progress" shots, but it is believable. they certainly price the pen as if the additional hours are applied.

It is amazing work of art to be able to make the Urushi part of the pen this way. Thank you for the confirmation.

Yes, they are different specifications. “Soft” refers to a lighter alloy that makes the nib semi-flexible (“semi”, in this case, meaning just a little bit, as you can see on my writing sample), while “Elastic” refers to those shoulder cutouts that make the nib springy. Nakaya offers only medium and fine soft nibs, while the elastic cutouts may be chosen with any of their nib specifications. You can also overlap both and make the elastic mod on a soft nib.

if you are interested, I have found this FAQ to be very helpful: https://leighreyes.com/2015/05/30/the-nakaya-elastic-nib-faq/

Much thanks!  I’ve an order in and will ask for the Elastic nib to be made from a soft nib.

Glad it helped. If you can, please let me know if you like it once you receive your order.
