My 149C is basically permanently inked and is my default pen. Anything else I have inked up is just for fun and play, and honestly doesn't usually write for very long before I switch back.

I hope you will write a bit about your thoughts on the 146C. I hope it is a good one!

Mine too. The 149C has knocked all my other pens off the desk. I was told the 146C isn’t quite as springy but is close in terms of line manipulation. I’ll certainly share my thoughts once I break it in and get some fare use from it.

Thank you for the kind words.

The big downside of the Montblanc 149/146 Calligraphy pens are that once you experience that nib, it's all you want to use, and all your other nice fountain pens can end up just sitting unused.  I got my 149C in Feb of 2000, and it's all I use now, that nib is so amazing. It's a superb extra fine that I use for fine detailed note taking and illustration, and when i want a little flair, holy smokes, it flexes so wonderfully.  I ink up my other pens just for fun and variety, but I always return to my 149C because it is perfection.  All I ever wanted in a fountain pen. Makes my generally messy boring looking hand writing look like those elegant vintage flexy script hand writing from a hundred to two hundred years ago.

The Montblanc Calligraphy pen is a vintage flex pen with the reliability and practicality of a modern pen, best of both worlds.  Love it.

Yeah...my 149 C is still permanently inked. I do have also my "the expressive" inked a lot lately, but it's basically exactly the same nib, only ground to a crisp italic. I haven't used any other pens in over a year now. Well, I toyed with my Pilot Custom FA yesterday for 5 minutes, before putting it down and swapping back to MB.

This is my most recent MB in terms of acquisition date, not manufacture date.

🙂

I don’t remember if I’ve posted this before (please, pardon me if I did), but it seems the more recent my acquisition, the older the pen. Here’s my “recent” 144, not really a music nib, yet very pleasant for writing, not only music.

Beautiful, I dare say, is that an OF nib?

I got this back from a nib exchange, from an F to a delicious BB.

Ink & notebook just to complete the experience. I find myself getting the ink & notebook whenever I like a pen.

My "new" Montblanc 221 arrived.  It is an absolutely wonderful writer - perfectly smooth.

These are nice pens but nothing like the screw on cap pens in my opinion!

Great pens I really like Montblanc pens!
Something between a 146 and 149 in size would be a great Montblanc offering……

Thanks, you’re right about the nib. In fact it is the finest, smoothest and most controllable OF nib I’ve ever come across, and I’ve had all sort of MBs in my hands so far… Only the nib would justify buying the pen, IMHO…

Well, I'm new to Montblanc so go all three of these this year (been collecting vintage Parker, Scheaffer and Pelkan primarily). I seemed to be obsessed with photographing my various collections and the Christmas ornaments and lights seemed to be a great backdrop for these 3. Now on the hunt for more vintage examples of Montblanc.

Thank you for posting the image above.

It captures the Christmas atmosphere as well as being an especially nice Montblanc trio.

Acquired a brand new never inked full set Solid Platinum Montblanc 149 at the beginning of the month. Beyond excited to have it in my collection. Getting ready to bring it to Hamburg for a new nib, along with my Heritage Coral 1914. Shown in the picture below with a gold trimmed resin 70's 149, Coral 1914, and Pelikan M1000 Green Ray

@PerpetualTraveler I did not know that the Pilot Somes case would fit such heavy hitters (larger pens) may I know what if this is a newer version of their case or is this a different one?

@AndyLogan This is not a Pilot case. It is a case I had custom made by a leatherworker to specially house the 1914 in the middle and to be flanked by 2 149 size pens or smaller on either side. Everything is hand-stitched. If you would like, I can dm you privately with more details.

I was hoping that it would have been a Pilot case, but it is what it is, I also had one made exclusively about two or three years ago to house my larger pens, I think it cost me around 300 or 400 pounds if I remember correctly, but the case was just to big, it was well made, but it was too big, hence it stays in the house. I find that the Pilot Somes case to be more cheaper & practical

Thank you!  I chased this model for years. Finally found one in the brand new condition and price I wanted. Yes, in the hand the platinum is an other-worldly experience. I agree with you on the vintage packaging. The burl wood presentation case is as luxurious as it gets.
