What is your most recent MB acquisition?

I've been using my Glacier with Glacier ink for about a month. Received it with a medium nib and loving every minute with it. I have tried the Glacier ink in a B nib, and the shading was moderate, but definitive. My next pen might be the Blue Hour, but would like to see a comparison between the two. I know the Blue Hour would be much heavier, but anyone can tell me if there is a great difference in feel and writing between the two?

Tom, it is nice to see that you are absolutely happy with your new pen. I saw that you chose an EF nib. I am curious to know if it writes similar to an architect nib. People have referred to Montblanc EF nibs as being close to an architect nib in the past, meaning that it wrote with thin vertical lines and somewhat thick horizontal lines. Naturally, it is still an EF size, so I shouldn´t expect very thick lines. However, it would be interesting to know that Montblanc still maintains this characteristic or if they changed to a more uniform trace.

My 149C is basically permanently inked and is my default pen. Anything else I have inked up is just for fun and play, and honestly doesn't usually write for very long before I switch back.

I hope you will write a bit about your thoughts on the 146C. I hope it is a good one!

@invisuu I received my 2nd 146 Calligraphy yesterday. I sent the first one back because of a scritchy nib that skipped a bit. The retailer swapped it out for another new one. The second 146C is just what I wanted. Compared to the 149C the line is finer; needlepoint as compared to XF on the Binder scale. Its as fine or finer than many of the steel calligraphy dip nibs I use. Perfect for hairline calligraphy work though I do like an oblique holder better for some scripts.

I'm getting great ink-flow with MB Midnight Blue. I'll wait for it to loosen up a bit before I flex it more. The 1st one I had could flex almost to the width of the 149. I didnt have it long enough to reach its limits but I was very happy with the wide lines it gave. They were as wide as any of my flex steel calligraphy nibs could make.

Cheers - Nicholas

Also received my 146 calligraphy. It was posted from Bologna Italy by DHL Express and made very good time (under a week). Ordered on the Montblanc website.

Experiences also as above. Ground extra-fine. Perhaps between a Sailor EF and F (all MB nibs are hand finished so there may be natural variation). Scratchiness as what I would expect in that nib grade and depends if the sharp edges catch the paper. However, on normal writing copy paper and inked it writes plenty smooth. The line variation requires some deliberate control but the line variation is impressive.

More interesting than the stock MB 146.

Shame I can't find the MB 149c anywhere. The gold leaf solitaire is also a 146 sized nib.

In Rotation: MB 146 (EF), Noodler's Ahab bumblebee, Edison Pearl (F), Sailor ProGear (N-MF)

In storage: MB 149 (18k EF), TWSBI 540 (B), ST Dupont Olympio XL (EF), MB Dumas (B stub), Waterman Preface (ST), Edison Pearl (0.5mm CI), Noodler's Ahab clear, Pilot VP (M), Danitrio Densho (F), Aurora Optima (F), Lamy 2000 (F), Visconti Homo Sapiens (stub)

Fantastic purchase @bunnspecial - enjoy with my compliments, I enjoyed admiring a couple of L139s at the London Pen Show last Sunday and I think the 136 has a lot going for it as well - I'm very jealous! One Day...

Starwalker Cool Blue rollerball to match my fountain pen.  Beautiful pen, sadly heavily faked - but this one is genuine!

What a lovely acquisition.

The two pens are such an attractive pair.

Thank you for posting the image.

May both pens provide much writing pleasure now and in the years to come.

Arrived yesterday. Montblanc S Line (no.2118) from 1980th in very dark green color, fine steel nib, NOS. Nice slim pen, I think.
I have few slim pens by Montblanc, Dunhill, Aurora, etc., and it’s good addition to my collection.

Treated myself to an MB Egyptomania (black, precious resin version) with a Fine 14k nib.  It arrived today.  Lovely pen, and a nice writer based on my dip test.  Now, I need to decide what color to fill it with.  Thoughts?

Sorry for being so late.

Congratulations to your Egyptomania. This is such a nice fountain pen!

Any saturated or dark teal or petrol ink will fit, such as Rohrer & Klingner Verdigris, J.Herbin Emeraud de Chivor, Diamine Holly (with sheen), Sailor studio 941, Colorverse Extreme deep field, etc. You may find a comprehensive list of teal inks here.

One life!

This is my most recent MB in terms of acquisition date, not manufacture date.

🙂

I don’t remember if I’ve posted this before (please, pardon me if I did), but it seems the more recent my acquisition, the older the pen. Here’s my “recent” 144, not really a music nib, yet very pleasant for writing, not only music.

🙂
