After some hemming and hawing I decided to purchase a 146 Calligraphy to use when traveling and as a backup to my 149 Calligraphy. I also purchased the proper tools to disassemble both pens in order to lubricate the pistons. My 149 is 10 months old and needs some silicon grease “badly”. I’ve put it aside till the tools arrive on Monday. The 146C arrives on Tuesday. It will be interesting to see if writing long letters is any different with the 146.

I hope you all are enjoying your writing instruments in good health.

My 149C is basically permanently inked and is my default pen. Anything else I have inked up is just for fun and play, and honestly doesn't usually write for very long before I switch back.

I hope you will write a bit about your thoughts on the 146C. I hope it is a good one!

Mine too. The 149C has knocked all my other pens off the desk. I was told the 146C isn’t quite as springy but is close in terms of line manipulation. I’ll certainly share my thoughts once I break it in and get some fare use from it.

Thank you for the kind words.

Cheers - Nicholas

Just got 2 vintage Montblancs recently. A celluloid 146 from the 50s with an OB nib, and a green straited 144g Masterpiece, which I sent out to have the cork seal replaced. Both pens are almost mint outside of some microscratches and a touch of shrinkage on the 144's piston knob. I told myself they were graduation gifts so I don't have to think about how much I dropped on them. 😬

Congratulations and YES those are wonderful graduation presents.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

To simultaneously celebrate completing my first year working after college and first year into the hobby, I purchased a vintage celluoid 146 with an OB. The standard size really feels nice in my hand as does the celluloid, the nib was beyond a dream to write with. Here's to hoping it'll give me a great many years of writing (and to getting another MB down the line...)

Stunning pen and congrats on your first year anniversary of work.

Welcome aboard!

Is it reasonable to assume that writing samples are forthcoming?

I spoke too soon—not the first time. I saw the writing sample posted in another thread. Very nice.

I can't decide which size nib I like the best. Everything from EF to a 4B Italic Edge has some useful purpose for me.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

A lovely acquisition. Wish you reams of happiness.

I am warming to it but undecided on the nib. I much prefer this to the standard black and gold combo.

The greedy me, wants three of them.  :headsmack:

That's a beautiful pen. I plan to get one to distinguish it from the 146s I own. With @DrDebG's encouragement, I filled my Italic Edge with Glacier Blue ink—a lovely combination.

@1nkulus, which three nibs would you get? Or just all three the same?

Montblanc Monte Rosa 41P, second generation (1961-67). Very simple model: hexagonal cap, steel semi hooded nib, cartridge filler.

I got this pair (MB 12 / 28) as a present to my girlfriend. They are in a really nice condition and starting to like the deep burgundy, so maybe I need to get her another present .... 😉

I like the cap finial for what it doesn't have.

My most recent MB is another vintage one. I think it is a 320, although the cap band does not say so -- it looks just like the photos of Bordeaux 320s I can find, except that it is cartridge/converter instead of a piston filler. If it's not a 320 maybe someone can fill me in on what the model is, so I can keep my records correct. Anyway, I love the EF nib.

So, a nice range of sizes; I ordered a Glacier Blue with OBB.

Congrats and wish you reams of happiness.   BTW, great nib choice.

Sadly, I am still in procrastinating mode.  :headsmack:

I am considering one with an extra-fine nib, too. So I am procrastinating as well. I'm waiting to see and try the first one. I have put Glacier Blue ink in a 149 and I like the color. In my journal, I called it, "greenish, bluish, tealish—if there is such a word". I ordered the big nib to get some extra shading from the ink. I wish you well. I'm going to the San Francisco Pen Show later today, so I'll probably see some of the pens for the first time in person. @Tom Kellie's pen looks great, though.

Enjoy the pen show, hope you get to see some great pens and land a bargain or two.  :D

An EF nib will be the other end of the spectrum and a fine addition. I too am leaning towards an EF.
