Coincidental to the discussion we were having on the new pens thread, one of my 70s 'fingernail nib' pens is today's (ink) rotation. I don't actually know the model of this old Diplomat pen. A 529 is my best guess based on the same textured plastic body I've seen before in a 529 box, but that could be way off the mark. (Pens in wrong boxes is also *extremely* common!) I have not been able to find much info at all on Diplomat pens from the 70s (or any other decade for that matter, but that's a whole 'nother story...), so if anyone happens to know which model this is, I'd be glad to hear it! The 14k nib is nice and smooth for an F and I do like the way it concentrates the red of this Herbin ink into something pleasant to read (depending on your taste, of course), even though it does ghost a bit in this particular journal.

It is a bit creepy, a sharp claw fingernail nib and the red ink... could be a clue in a murder mystery. 🙂

Will work for pens...

Haha, I hadn't thought of that! But then I do love a good murder mystery ;)

I definitely don't know, but I did a casual search. Could it be one of these, a vintage Diplomat School?

The school pens do complicate the matter quite a bit, as I'm not exactly sure when they produced them and what the exact differences are between those and their regular lines, or even if there really was a difference. I *think* it's the simpler nib and 'cheaper-looking' plastic, but I've also seen quite fancy pens with gold nibs labelled (by the seller of course) as school pens. I had seen this auction lot already, which also seems to be a bit of a jumble of different models. Besides the 151 that they mention, there are also 105/106 models, 505/506 models, the 529, and presumably plenty of others, but I have not yet found anything on the internet that can really tell me what is what. The biggest problem with going by auction and bay descriptions is that the sellers also seldom seem to know for sure what it is, or they just put 'key words' in there that will get their listings seen more often. :( (I've even seen one bay seller list everything as an Aero! lol)

Naaah, that red looks pretty innocuous -- on my screen it seems to be leaning a little on the pink side.

Now if it was a blood red.... B)

Having a central wiki/database, of all fountain pens ever, would be nice.

Oh, yes!! Wouldn't that be fantastic!?! But then I do actually have to admit that trying to figure it all out is half of the fun. It does get a little frustrating that there is *so little* information out there that's readily available, but I guess that makes it even more exciting whenever I can finally pin something down!

Aha, I can understand that. For me, being into software stuff, the half-of-the-fun part would be in setting up such a wiki system. But actually, it sounds rather troublesome and expensive, so nevermind. Hee hee.

I have almost given up trying to find info on my old 'Democrat' pen (made in UK)! Particularly internet search. Every word search brings up nothing but US Politics!!

I've yet to find a way to get around it! I think US has copyright on this name! Or...was it campaign paraphernalia? I may never know!

Can you imagine the rubbish that comes up when searching Democrat fountain pen? 😄

I've got a handy-dandy spreadsheet just for these but it's already pretty messy! lol

Don't even want to think about that!! That would drive anyone crazy, haha! It's bad enough searching for 'Diplomat' and getting all kinds of articles about scandalous liaisons, not to mention the odd murder mystery....

Then too, I'm surprised that people don't know that Switzerland is not solely German-speaking, but in fact has three languages -- French, German, and Italian regionally.

It amazes me that so many people's vision of Italy is the Italian Riviera, Olive groves and vineyards forgetting that the Alps form part of its northern border.  Then too, I'm surprised that people don't know that Switzerland is not solely German-speaking, but in fact has three languages -- French, German, and Italian regionally.

you're right, but in a way it's understandable, the peculiarity of this country is it changes dramatically within short distances so you can go from mountain to hill to plane to seaside in just a hundred Km...

most people than come here go to see the "main attractions"

Some other countries you need to travel thousands of Km to see the landscape change...

Sorry, I see what I did. I quoted out of a quote in your reply...I need to watch out for that.

Fortunately it wasn't too late to go back and correct. Thank you. The comment was intended in good fun.
