Vintage Japanese Lever Filler

Frankrowles

Recommended Posts

This is a lever filler fountain pen I purchased recently. No known brand name. The clip, in the shape of a fish is engraved “SPECIAL COMPLETE PEN” with a small star. The lever carries a logo similar to the Sailor logo with an anchor and letter ‘O’ The nib is 14K warranted no. 3. And is poor quality. The barrel end is impressed “JAPAN” The section is friction fit, no sac but working ‘J’ bar.

From the style of the lever it appears to be pre-war. Would very much like to learn more about this FP.

Bernard.

One of many many no name generic pens made before the war. I've had at least two pens with similar clip and of same color. Interesting is the pen is similar to a model made by Pilot. It was not unhear of for one unknown small maker to copy better quality pens to eke out more Yen in the sale. Logo is not an anchor. Could be TCO?

Nib is as generic as they come. Actually many of the WARRANTED nibs are pretty good.

Get a sac. Try it out. Enjoy.

That’s very helpful Stan, thank you, I have dipped the pen and it writes very well with my clumsy hand. Upon close examination with a loupe the nib looks like it may not be gold, merely plated, I cannot be sure.  I will clean it and fit a new sac and likely leave it to the market as I only collect Conway Stewart.
