New Tibaldi Bononia

bbs

Recommended Posts

Hi, has anyone else seen the new version of the Bononia that Tibaldi is introducing? The red/orange one looks pretty good, and the feed is ebonite.

this looks nice, I like the resin, these staked resins when turned tend to mimic the celluloid effect quite well.

The red and green colours in this material were probably used by Stipula for their Duetto pens time ago, or at least they look very similar (Marlen also used this red, as I have shown before).

But what I do like even more here is the classic shape. At last a pen with straight section and barrel and no step downs! (The Tibaldi 60 shows the same benefit).

Clip and steel nib look somewhat basic, waiting for some tests...

I like them too. The body without ring that separates it from the section, and the barrel without step to section, are great pluses in my opinion. And the price, well, it seems quite right!

I have a red one coming in for review for ukfountainpens.com. Dries from Pencilcase Blog has the green one in for review — the resin looks fantastic.

Ok, mine was waiting when I arrived home tonight, and WOW! The light’s not good enough to take pictures, but this is one of the loveliest pens I’ve seen. First impressions are entirely favourable. The material is just stunning from every angle - how often does a great pattern have a ‘meh’ spot? Not this one! It feels substantial and really well built, it’s a classic, unfussy design and very comfortable to hold.

And yes, it writes well too! I haven’t played with it much yet but so far so very good.

Dare I say it I prefer it to my Leonardos?

Pix to come tomorrow, if I get time!

Those colors looks wonderful! Seems pretty much like the old materials used by Stipula, like Duetto.

Beautiful pens at affordable price, that's a fantastic news! :)

Sorry for the delay! Some photos plus a comparison - should have been with a Leonardo Furore but the Sand was to hand ...

bbs: Thank you for posting these photos. Very attractive! I like the grip section too. It’s exciting that Italian fountain pen industry is going through a revival, with Leonardo, Santini, Stipula and Tibaldi all coming up with attractive and affordable models, and even more nib options. Enjoy your new pen!

Tell us a bit more about the nib, after which... I'm probably sold...😀

It’s very, VERY smooth! No flex, but because of the ebonite feed giving it a great flow and the smoothness, it’s very pleasant to write with, not soulless. I do think you’d like it - I would take it over a Furore ....

I purchased the Olive green version....I do like the coloring of the resin, it looks and feels really good.

BUT the threads in the barrel that thread onto the nib section, and the threads on the outside of the barrel that thread to the cap are not very smooth.

Particularly the threads on the outside of the barrel that thread into the cap are not smooth at all.

I put a little silicone grease on the threads and it really didn't help a whole lot.

Can any other owner comment on their threads?

I am contemplating a return...

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mine neither. I've not tried grease, but it doesn't bother me.
