Sailor Professional Gear Nib Question

MSA

Recommended Posts

Hello.

So the nib is marked H-F but behaves very differently. It is more like a European Medium and very wet. Wetness is fine. The line is thick and that is bothering me. I have had this pen for a while.

The paper is Black n' Red and ink is Lamy blue.

The nib sounds scratchy on most types of papers except some types.

Any suggestions ? Nib Adjustment ? Replacement units ?

How should an H-F ideally write ? Scratchy fine ?

I will appreciate some feedback from Sailor experts.

Use a loupe to check tine alignment. If fixing that does not bring the line size down, empty the pen and check for tine spacing. You should not see air between the tines at the tip. The 21k nibs on the larger Sailors are soft and easy to spring open. They're easy to fix, too.

Bingo.....I see air between the tines at the tip. What is the best way to close the gap ?

Thank you

How should an H-F ideally write ?

Isn't "ideal" inherently subjective?

There are writing samples of two different gold Sailor H-F nibs here:

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/343508-q-i-use-western-fine-nibs-what-is-the-japanese-equivalent/?p=4173821

I have two more (and a Cross Peerless 125 which has a gold F nib made by Sailor), but they are acquired later and not shown on that sheet.

Scratchy fine ?

I've never encountered a scratchy gold Sailor nib — and I have a fair few (in excess of a dozen) gold-nibbed Sailor fountain pens.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.
