Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Diamine Regency Blue

This is review #50 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: Zoom photo is too dark. The blurple color shows more clearly in real life.

Cleaning: Easy as can be. Flushing with plain water a few times will do the trick.

And here is a screen of the final result, for those not interested in the video:

I love how you manage to have a defining theme..!

I would have gone with a Japanese Eggplant though. You could have practiced your scratchy sketching ;)

I wonder what vegetable Mr. Colins was alluding to, courgette?

I have a theme? I think it's an accident (other than sticking with mutations of the common panagrams). Though, I admit, the fifth wizard is growing on me. He might tell me his name eventually (wizards are cagey about that, you know - power of true names and all), in which case I might actually discover a story. Japanese Eggplant would certainly have fit the review pen and color better, just didn't think of it (I suspect I was pondering zucchini bread when I wrote that review).

I have no idea what vegetable he may have had in mind - I just searched for regency quotes and everything was about regency-era (in) fiction, not the actual definition of "regency" - no quotes about that, really.

PS: Reviews are recorded at least 8 days prior to when I post them (this one was recorded on Tuesday, 06 October 2020). So my brain has moved on - right now, ink #53 is in my pen.

Well there's an underlying theme, don't you think?

Yes I tried to find the phrase but I couldn't. But in the video clip...It's potatoes.... :D

If there's an underlying theme, it's also a subconscious theme. I do pick quotes that appeal to me in some way (and from which I can come up with a decent writing prompt, and a somewhat related writing sample).

Thanks for the clip - Jane Austen really was fabulous.

Interesting color, thanks!

A helicopter made from a truly giant zucchini? ;)

You're welcome!

I fear that helicopter would never get off the ground - the rotors would fling themselves off before achieving sufficient speed for lift. The splatter would be horrific! Of course, if I could convince them to try it, they wouldn't be able to fly over my house anymore....

This is a purple blue I really like. One of the nicer ones from the Anniversary collection. Thanks for the review.

If I were a blurple person, I'd probably consider a bottle, just because it's so pleasant to write with! :)

You're welcome!

And here I was just thinking that the zucchini wizard was just giving Liz a break from having to write "The quick brown fox" all the time! Now it seems that the cabal of wizards are plotting their own story arc....

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

OK....its more purple to me with hints of blue, feathering is a issue for me but depends on what I am doing, it reminds me of my skrip black which feathers of cheap papers like no ones business

Color is nice in general but I thinks it will take some time for me to click buy now, no rush.

Thanks for the review.

PS- so can the zucchinis in the box be eaten...and will they have magical effects I wonder, wizards doing wizard things I guess

That could be the images, so I recommend a google image search before you decide. I find that different people see the same color as belonging to different color families. The absorbent paper I'm using is the paper found in puzzle books - like a thick newsprint - so nearly everything feathers and /or "wools" a little (or a lot). This one didn't really seem to go woolly, just to put out little tiny feathers - it was kinda cute.

You're very welcome!

Well, they're healthy wizards, so I imagine the zucchinis were for eating, but what further effects they might have appears to be a secret. If I discover what it is, I'll be sure to let you know!

What immediately comes to mind is wizards conjuring zucchinis with high-tensile strength fibers, grown in villages with an annual festival to dry the zucchinis to remove excess moisture.

No explanations for how the wizards and natives invent/construct a helicopter. But let's call it an "ornithopter", and then it all seems obvious. :)

It looks like an interesting color to me. Not sure when I'll next order samples, but it's on the list.

Magic zucchini - doing their part to increase ink sample sales everywhere...

  • 1 year later...

Here's the line width measurement. The line is one of those used for dry time.  Magnification is 100x.  The grid is 100x100µm.  The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each.  The line width for this ink is roughly 270µm.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
