A Few Chinese Pens Reviewed

Timeline

Recommended Posts

I was fortunate to receive a PIF from amberleadavis this morning. I'm sure some, if not all of these brands/models have been reviewed so the reviews will not be very long.

First up:

The pen came to me with a custom grind to the nib, it will take some practice with it as the upward strokes are a little scratchy depending on how the nib is positioned on the paper. A very nice pen in weight 1.45 ounces and size approximately 5.5 inches long capped.

Second:

This pen is a Parker look a like, a smooth metal finish and will need nib work as it writes like a rough nail. At 24 grams and 5.25 inches long posted it is light in the hand.

Third:

This model has been reviewed many times, it still amazes me what smooth nibs they have. A nice banana color, weighs 1.7 ounces and measures approximately 5.75 inches long.

Fourth and final one:

Wish I could tell you the brand but, there are no markings on it. The pen writs well, only issue with this pen is removal and capping of the cap, there is an inner cap that is very tight and makes it difficult to remove the cap.

I know there is not a lot to this review, my first time doing one, hope to do more in the future. Thanks again to amberleadavis for the awesome PIF.

It surprises me that the nib on your Baoer 388 is so bad.

I own a blue striped 388 since a few years and the nib has surprised me with being one of my best Chinese nibs. Overall the pen is also nice, good converter, comfortable body, well closing cap. Makes one of the few Chinese pens I will probably not get rid of soon.

Your nib is probably an unfortunately defected one (does happen to get the odd dud with cheap pens).

It probably needs some smoothing and by the looks of your test possibly more work to avoid the hard start.

The Bookworm had Noodler's Texas Navy, all others had Waterman Absolute Brown.

The "Spade" style of nibs like the one on the Baoer can be incredibly stiff nails if they are made like the ones coming out in the late 90's early 2000's. I have some that are brutal to use.
