Almost all my fountain pen nibs have been custom-ground to the crisp cursive italic I favor for my everyday italic handwriting. So I am always happy to find a new nib technician who can grind a sweet-writing nib for me.

Appelboom pens in The Netherlands has begun offering the nib grinding services of Anabelle Hiller. I have a first nib from her, and it is a gem. The nib started as a stock Kaweco (Bock) steel Broad. Anabelle ground it, as requested to a crisp cursive italic.

No affiliation other than a happy customer.

Ms. Hiller is getting her degree in metal and gold smithing, that seems a perfect background for a nib grinder.

I understand she was recently certified as a goldsmith. And I believe John Mottishaw was an artist in metal before getting into nib meistering.

Ms. Hiller recently completed her masterpiece and was certified with honours. I had the privilege of seeing the pen she created in Appelboom’s shop. It is stunning. Words can’t do it justice, so if you’re interested then look up the professional photos of her creation on the instagram pages of Ms. Hiller and of Appelboom.

Regarding Ms. Hiller’s abilities as a nibmeister, I fully concur with David. She turned a boring Lamy F into a fascinating mini-stub based on a similar nib that I’d created myself. Her work is of a very high standard, plus she works fast. At the moment there’s hardly any waiting list, I predict that this will change really really soon.

Very happy with the M1000 nominal F nib that Anabelle recently transformed into an actual F, and a crisp CI to boot. She was working alongside John at the London October pen show last year.
