Hi David, the poet Gary Snyder (Pulitzer winner for Turtle Island) lives just a bit upriver from me. He learned calligraphy at Reed College. Did you attend Reed? By the way, I always enjoy your demonstrations of your calligraphy.

Hi, David R.

Yes. I attended Reed, entering about 10 years after Gary Snyder graduated, I believe. Even so, my first year there, more than one faculty member asked if I were related to Gary Snyder. I confess that, at that time, I had not heard of him.

I'm happy you enjoy my calligraphy. Thanks for letting me know.

Happy writing!

David

David, I forgot that your last name is also Snyder. I was asking because you featured Reed in your demo and Reed is recognized for teaching calligraphy. And not just Gary Snyder, but also Steve Jobs! Very cool.

David, I love what you are doing!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I am happy you enjoy it too.

I'm starting to learn Celtic knots, but they are not ready for prime time. Stay tuned.

That's not bad -- especially for someone who is just starting out doing Celtic knotwork.

My understanding (I know a lot of SCA scribes) is that it helps to do the knots around a grid pattern, which I presume you did since it's on graph paper.  Of course a friend of my husband and me started out doing that sort of work (which is quite interesting, since she was born without any lenses in her eyes, and wears coke-bottle thick glasses and used to do scribal work under one of those magnifying lamps.  Then she discovered ivy vine work (what people in the SCA often refer to as "idiot leaves") and just went crazy and prolific in doing scrolls for people in that style instead.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

More Celtic knot work. I think I'm making some progress.
