I stopped at a local area auction this morning, the auction company had listed 2 Parker pen sets [ no photos ].

 

I needed a morning out, all that was there was a 180 set, P75 SS BP & Pencil, green Duofold Jr [ nice clean color on barrel ] and a green Vac Deb.

 

There was one more pen there that was the prize for the day. Just 7 pens for the day, with all the other estate items to sell before the pens. [ 2 -21/2 hrs ]

 

I do not know because my main competition was there [ the only other Parker Pen picker ] for the day. Now I knew I was not going to get the prize cheep.

 

We would have bid each other up and he has more money than [ ] and I would not have gotten the pen. I told him he will get that pen cheep and the other

 

6 pens as well. I told him just tell me later what you paid for the pen. At least I had the pleasure of holding the pen. You are wondering what the prize was?

Oh be still my beating heart! I've just looked one up in an old Go Pens Catalog (#80) from 4 years ago and it was over $2000. Any idea what this one sold for at that auction?

Never knew this version existed until now, so thanks.

Honestly, the jewels on the cap look odd. I mean sure, it`s a rare item, valuable, but i think there are better looking 51s out there, however less special they might be.

 

I have had 5 P51s so far, none of them pleased me because the nibs were less than perfect. I would be happy to get just an average NOS P51 aerometric with gold plated cap.

 

So, what i`m trying to say is....don`t feel bad, things are relative. And...who knows what tomorrow might bring.

Update: I just talk to the man who bought the pen. It sold for $350 He was bid up by someone, he bought all the other Parker's as well.

Todd I did not know it was there until I was there. It was last minute that I went to the auction.There will always be another auction sometime.

Last year at that last auction we split a lot of pens. I bid and won the lot and we split the cost and the pens. Rule is, who is bidding gets first pick. Stay friendly with the competition. We will be doing some trading soon. He just bought two pen collections this past week.

Even if prices for them have gone down, that was still a hell of a deal. I can see why Parker didn't put them into full production though, the Rhinestones sticking out like that would have been asking for trouble.
