In Search Of Holy Grail Greens!

Recommended Posts

I've got a couple of Rangas and a very tightly-tined nib on a TWSBI that I like to fill with wow greens. I am searching for wet, lubricating inks that will help these pens flow.

I like saturated colors, maybe some shade and sheen, and even some water resistance.

Noodler's Eel Gruene has been my go to, but I'm not nuts about the color. (I prefer bright greens, nothing Army shaded with grays and blacks.)

I've tried Diamine Woodland, KWZ Emerald. What else does the world offer?

Unlike Veruca Salt, whose image I'm not allowed to post, I won't scream if I don't get it, but I will keep looking!

Although I like darker greens, GvFC Viper, Monteverde Yosemite, and Diamine Apple Glory are fairly bright. My Eel Gruene is a fairly bright medium green-is yours a darker color, since you mention Army green and gray?

Thank you! Maybe I'm just tired of the Cactus Gruene. Mine is vivid, but not bright. (The latter would describe Apple Glory.)

I was spooked by Monteverde. I just bought a large bottle of Capri and it was one of the skunky bottles left over from their production disaster. I own a lot of Monte inks, but am gun shy now.

Anybody have experience with KWZs?

Noodler's Polar Green is reasonably bright, waterproof, and extremely wet.

I wouldn't describe any Polar color as vivid or saturated.

I like Montblanc Irish Green, but I'm not sure it's a 'wow'.

That's a nice suggestion! Damn, just saw MB Lavender Purple. I feel a rising credit card bill...

I have used MB Lavender Purple for years but would not characterize it as a "wet, lubricating ink." In addition, I believe it has recently been replaced by a different purple, MB Amethyst, which I have not seen other than in swabs.

As for greens, Rohrer & Klingner Verdigris is a beautiful wet, lubricating ink but alas too dark to satisfy your wish for brightness.

Thank you. To my mind, the Verdigris is a blue black. That lavender purple is stunning! Will look at the new shade. Thank you.

OMG MB Amethyst is $50US per bottle. Might as well be $100.

KWZs have a lovely "thickness" to them that makes them very pleasant to use. Their standard line has some interesting bright greens, I've only tried a sample of Pine Green and I liked it.

I know, I know, they're both long gone but if you have a chance to get them (or any rests), check out CdA's Amazon and MB's White Forest. Otherwise Diamine's Evergreen....

I'm surprised by the price. The manufacturer's website lists it at $22.

Oh dear. More inks I didn't manage to try. I just returned to Hong Kong and brought something on the order of 40 colors with me, and still there are ones I wish I had remembered. Luckily planes fly from Taiwan and Germany...

Some girls like shoes. A pity.

For a rich and wet green, KWZI Green #3 and #5 would be my favourite choices.

How about J. Herbin Lierre Sauvage? A very well behaved green ink that is my go-to for a nice, deep color that is however very green at the same time.

Using right now:

Jinhao 9019 "EF" nib running Birmingham Railroad Spike

Pineider Avatar Mini "F" nib running Moonman Black

Visconti Opera Typhoon "B" nib running Pelikan Edelstein Aquamarine

Leonardo Officina Italiana "EF" nib running Standard Inks Seaweed

Platinum Century 3776 "M" nib running Birmingham Bellflower
