The Wality pens will get pretty low before they burp in England at this time of the year, but in a climate like that of India it would be unwise to run the ink down too far. The pen would be experiencing a far wider variation in temperature.

Use the 69T and see how many sides of A4 would drop the level to 75% or 50% full. Then the same applies to the 69EB.

I don't know at what point a Wality 69 would be likely to burp in India with its temperature swing.

Thanks Dip and Scratch. Yes i did that experiment with 69t. I saw that the first burp happened when the barrel was around 2/3rds full. In a 69 t i can see the level all the time so i can refill  it in advance , but in eb i would not be able to do it proactively. So i was wondering if it may be better to have a self filling system instead. Like syringe filler or converter for that so that burping possibility is much lower. Not sure if that is possible.

I feel the opposite is true. Eyedropper pens are suited to warmer places because the air temperature is closer to the body temperature.

I also agree. I dont ever remember seeing burping in Chennai :)  Where temperatures are close to body temp

You could try swapping the feeds. A multi-channel feed should buffer the ink flow a lot better than the basic ebonite feed.

Kanwrite's feeds might do the job.

@Dimy

You have tried swapping simple ebonite feeds with Kanwrite's ebonite feeds. Do you think the ink flow is more controlled (buffered) now than before?

I am not so sure about buying Kanwrite's ebonite feeds because unlike a No Nonsense feed it does not have a lot of channels.

Quick qn: What is the feed shown in the picture?

Does this Sheaffers Viewpoint pen have the aforementioned Sheaffers "no nonsense feed" that can be used in other eyedropper pens? https://www.amazon.com/Sheaffer-Viewpoint-Calligraphy-Fountain-Cartridges/dp/B0733ZMZ7H/ref=asc_df_B0733ZMZ7H/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198104760853&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1224232207698970174&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031935&hvtargid=pla-350141209106&psc=1

Seems to be the case. I think Kanwrite seels individuals feeds too.

Kanwrite sells individual feeds for heritage, they are the ones that are sheaffer no-nonsense type of feed. They won't accept any cartridge or convertor though.

I have the feed for heritage and wality pen, I do plan to add the feed and see the change and if its possible (by the looks of it, it should work without issue but will need to try to be sure). Will take me a week or so as pen still has plenty of ink left but I will update the result of action here. Hope that will help.

Sure. No problem. Thanks :)

Does Kanwrite only sell ebonite feeds? Plastic feeds should buffer the ink flow better, although heat setting will be impossible with a friction fit nib.

I have never bought a plastic feed from them so can't say for sure, but I think they might sell it if asked for desire feed. Worst case it can become a process of extracting feed from nib unit while best case will be cheap plastic feed.

  • 2 weeks later...

So I did a change of feed replacing the stock wality feed with Kanwrite heritage feed. Thank you hari sir for a important reminder.

Worthy points to note.

Heritage feed is smaller in length then Wality feed.

Diameter of both feeds are same (tested by overlapping them at back end and found to be exact match, I lack equipment to do exact measurements so this is best I can think of doing with both feeds in hand).

Can be set deeper then I did but I feel its not needed and I like my nibs to be larger and be extra out.

It becomes a bit more easy to fit a no 6 Kanwrite nib or any 35mm nib with this feed when compared to original feed where it takes quite a bit of effort to get it done (most likely due to feed being smaller then stock one, still not as easy as stock size nibs).

Some images of feed after being installed. As stated above, it can go deeper if one wants but personally thats too much for me personally, still that scope too is not too high and one will hit a wall very soon.

Now what main changes are observed after this mod.

First I used same nib and ink to make sure I know exact difference between 2.

The main thing I feed is that the pen has become wetter in nature, not a gusher but definitely wetter then before. There is a general rise in feel of nib being smoother but I bet that comes due to feed being wetter then before over any other reason. All in all for getting a wetter wality this is good enough.

The main concern that comes here for me is that feed is smaller and this might impact the point where ED pens show signs of burping, This will need further testing and if result is significant I will update here else I won't do so for small changes. Apart from that there is no real concern from my end.

I will use the pen as daily for same purpose as before so observation will become cleared in time.

Test run can be ignored and tells nothing here.....just something to get system moving.

Enjoy.

Where did you buy that green-orange Wality?

Can a Wality nib be swapped with Kanwrite #8? Does a Heritage feed fit with Kanwrite #8 nib?

This one I got from amazon, was not able to get on my usual places at that moment (just checked it shows one in stock but price is jacked to sky right now, I got it for Rs550 with shipping back then which was about same I would have paid normally with shipping). Normally I look at other places like ASA and such.

Yes Kanwrite no 8 nib will fit perfectly, its same nib size.

Yes on 69EB its possible to change nib to Kanwrite no 8 with heritage feed no problem.

I've replaced the Wality nibs on many of my Airmail/Wality pens, Usually setting them a bit deeper into the section so the point of the nib can clear the cap.

Actually, what's prompted me to respond here is the paper you used for your test. It looks very nice, and I'd like to know where one might find a notebook like yours if one is outside India and not in continental America or Europe... as in, I'm in the Caribbean.

OK lets see.

Paper used is JK cedar 100gsm A4 paper and paper is actually white if image gives some deception I apologise.

I can't say for sure how easy it would be to get secured overseas though as I lack experience on this front.

Now for notebook, its actually just simple spiral binding done at stationary shop nearby with blue cover for back and white transparent on front( I always use spirals for ease of using and cost effectiveness when making them with loose sheets). So finding notebook should be easy (I hope) as its just about getting loose sheets binded.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for your response! that narrows it down to finding some of this paper to buy...

I'm glad about how the notebook is made - there's a copyshop about 30 minutes' drive from home where they do that, and I have very good experience with their service. So it remains for me to find a way to get me some of that nice paper...

This notebook idea has saved me a lot of time and money (on papers) and one can get customisation in them to like getting hard covers or other fun ideas. For me it has been great degree of freedom to choose the paper of my liking instead of searching for notebook all around place (here in India its really a different kind of challenge if one writes a lot) and ease of writing with spirals in general.

Hope this will be to your liking and very best wishes in finding the paper.
