JK Cedar has been described as "absorbent" by some. If ITC's Paperkraft notebooks are sold over there then you should definitely try them.

I already have 'enough' Wality pens, but when I saw this 69A...... My resolve lasted about 0.068 seconds.

My first Wality was a 69 EB exactly the same as the other pen in the image.

I wondered why the Wality nibs are so variable in smoothness. When I was a complete newbie to Indian Eyedropper pens I tossed a 69EB in the trash thinking it was no good. The truth was that I really ought to have sought education here.

Trying out this lovely combination on my 69TL. Bock two tone steel nib BB, sheaffer school pen feed, friction fit in the section. Quink blue black ink.

I place and align the nib over the feed outside the pen and push them in together ensuring no relative motion. it was easy to push them in to the correct depth. On this particular pen the inner cap’s depth was 20mm. Sometimes it can be as low as 18. So you have to measure and set the nib accordingly.

It’s v easy to determine the inner cap depth. 

 

You will need a thin rod and a mm scale. A kulfi stick or chop stick will also work as the rod. 

 

Take the wooden chop stick. 

Insert it fully into the cap. 

Mark a line along cap lip on the chop stick using a pencil. 

Now insert the chop stick again so that it rests on the lip of the inner cap instead of bottom of cap. Mark a line on chop stick along cap lip at this position. 

Now you have two lines on the  chop stick. 

 

Measure the distance between these two lines. This is the max allowable exposed length of the nib. 

 

Keep the exposed length of nib outside the section less than this value. 

 

You need not even mark the positions on the chop stick using a pencil. Simply hold the position using your thumbnail and measure it against the scale. Note it. Difference between the two noted lengths is your inner cap depth. 

 

I use the depth rod of my calipers to do the same job. 

 

For most of you this not new information. Hope this helps a newbie.

Here are my Airmails. Thanks to the advice from Hari sir, I was able to replace stock feed on the Blue with Sheaffer NN feed.

Hopefully that takes care of the burping.

Do apply silicone grease on the section threads. You should be able to write the pen dry without burping. Keep us posted on how it worked for you. Best,

Thanks. Do all the wality 69s ( esp 69a and 69eb) and 71 jt use the same section? So we can use sheaffer feed with them too?

The sections are not always interchangeable. BUT the 69P 69TL 69EB 69A 69LGM 51P 52P/D 71J 71JT 71JB all use the same nib and feed. So the NN feed will fit all these pens. Use the chopstick method described above to determine how much nib should be exposed for each pen.

My Wality/Airmail family:

 

Far left green 69 EB is my first handmade fountain pen and the first buy from ASA pens,before that I used to buy mostly Chinese pens like Jinhao, Baoer, 

hero  etc..

Lovely collection Sagar. Congrats. My first encounter with WALITY was in 1999 at Ahmedabad. The shop had a 69TL on display. ( I did not know the model name at that time). The shopkeeper called it sheet pen. I did not quite understand. He meant to say that the pen was made out of a sheet of acrylic bored out. I still have that pen. I might have paid 40/- for it then.  Later when I moved to Bombay one of the shop keepers below Empire cinema told me that the pens are actually made here in Mumbai. Then I traced the factory location and simply walked in. Wonderful people. Wonderful pens.

Thanks Hari. Do you remember you shared your experience at Airmail House here in FPN  few years back? Two pens you bought from there, one was 69 A with black cap and other one was 70 TS as far as I can remember. Later I sent that 70 TS pic to Mr.Nirmal Mirchandani and he told me there was just one piece left for display and he agreed to send it to me.

I have learnt so many things from you about fountain pens Hari. Your pen display on bamboo mat, your nib swapping ideas etc,etc...I have always been enjoyed..I still search for the old posts of yours,but unfortunately in many cases pictures are not being displayed.

I am really glad my posts have been helpful. Yes Nirmal is kind like that. Yes that bamboo mat was my trademark. The pics hosted on photobucket still work. The links have gotten messed up post fpn software upgrade. If you copy the complete link and paste it in your browser you can still view the image. This was a custom order directly from Airmail pen co. 69TL in solid black, plain barrel with name engraving. I am using this pen since last few days. Brings back a lot of old memories.

(Grand daddy of Airmail/ Wality ) 
This is a very special pen from the house of Airmail. 

 

History : 
A company called  Enayatali & Co. in Mumbai used to get their pens made from Airmail between 1950-70s . 
This pen is a model from 1962. This is one of the earliest demonstrator pen made from the house of Airmail - a design that is now the hallmark of the company. 
The beautiful big nib also a typical Airmail feature. The craftsmanship on the pen is top notch. The beautiful body and use of brass on the cap and clip adds a rich feel to the black cap. 
Mohammed bhai the owner of Enayatali & Co. was graceful to sell this pen to me. This is a unique model and not many have survived the test of time. Holding on to a piece of history and legacy makes you only feel more responsible for it.
