Is It Possible To Pull Out The Feed Of Pilot Custom Black Stripe?

Hello FPN community. Recently I received my dream pen. And I have a problem: the pen doesn't want to write properly. Of course I flushed it, twice. I guess, may be the main feed channel clogged with old ink, so I need to extract the feed to clean it... It would be great to see your suggestions!

Typically this pen has an inset nib. The feeder is fully enclosed in the section. To remove it, you first unscrew the cartridge piercer. Then the feeder comes out from converter end.

You dont need to extract the feed, try just standing the pen, nib down, in some warm (not hot!) water for several hours/days. You can also buy bottles of nib cleaner or pen flush. Good luck!

bbs, I flushed the pen with soapy water twice for a day. Water comes out easily, but when I tried to clean the feed channel (around the nib end) with piece of paper I found some greasy substance (dried ink I guess).

I tried to apply some force to it with no result... I'm afraid to break it.

The piercer threads are locked with some glue. Use heat. There are two slots around the piercer. Make an appropriate tool to engage the slots( a pair of tweezers filed down works, so does a tool made by filing and shaping the end of a brass tube). Use dry heat then try with the tool. Patience, no forcing.

hari317, big thanks for your help. I managed to unscrew the feed piercer and to clean the feed properly. It wasn't so dirty. Also I seen no glue on the piercer threads. About the nib: am I really have to reattach it with some epoxy? It sits nice (I guess) without.

thats excellent. You are welcome.

Try it without the epoxy, no harm. Generally epoxy fills the capillary space between the hood and nib thus preventing ink from entering there and leading to inky fingers as you write.

The pen cleaned everywhere now, assembled and inked. And needs some testing.

Question in another plane: what distance between the feed end and nib is "normal"? In my situation I can slip print paper between.

On the inset nibs, the nib must touch the top of the enclosed feed without gap. You can insert a sheet of paper that deep. Can you pls post a side view with the nib mounted ?

IMO the gap is excessive. One way to test if it really matters is to store the pen nib up for a couple of hours. Then just uncap the pen and write. It should start right away.

Ya, I think the gap is wider than it should be too. I inked the pen with Hero 203 blue ink (the most wet and fluid ink I have out of my ~30) and leaved it for night. Will see.

Report. After night I had a dry start (I stored the pen vertically with nib toward sky). I shook the pen and it helped. May be I need to make some nib/feed adjustment.
